I have had the full DSTV package since year dot. I am on debit order, and have never looked at my account breakdown. I went into a DSTV outlet yesterday and saw they had several kiosks whereby you punch in your ID number and can do various things with your account. I asked for a breakdown of my account, and saw that every month I am charged R80 for "DSTV ACCESS".

I went over to speak to a real human, and she told me it allows me to record and stop live TV. I thought access was if you had a DUAL VIEW PVR. I have single view with HD and record function (built in hard disk)

Now, I thought the ability to record and stop live TV is a function of the type of decoder I bought....and is not a function of the DSTV picture that is streamed to me. Am I being hoodwinked ? If I cancel my DSTV ACCESS, will I not be able to pause live TV or make recordings - which my decoder can do ? How would they even be able to stop my decoder from pausing or recording ?

Thanks

That's the PVR/Xtraview fee, if you cancel it you cannot record.

I have an Explorer and pay the Access fee. When I go on holiday I switch my Premium package to my HD single view decoder and they disable my Access Fee. I do not want to pay for 2 Premium packages when there is no one at home.
Anyone know why we are not allowed to continue paying the Access fee so that we can use the "Catch-up" download capability onto a PC to be able to see programs that we miss for any reason.?
