DStv affordability versus Openview

South Africans can get eMedia's satellite TV product, Openview, and watch it indefinitely for a one-time fee to install and activate the service.

Unlike MultiChoice's DStv, which involves hardware and subscription costs, Openview only charges R799 for its decoder, and installation can bring this once-off price to between R1,500 and R2,500.

22 channels that nobody watches. Thanks to their deal with MultiChoice you can't even watch their own news channel.

Yep.

But some good news - that news channel is on DStv EasyView which is just R30 a month. But only on the streaming side of it...
And some bad news - to stream it you have to at least pretend to get a satellite setup first, and now it's a mission to even get the package.

BTW, that streaming access of it may be a mistake.

I have an Access subscription but without the above mentioned news channel.
Thankfully they still have BBC News on there.

Yep, Access is the only package completely without it, which is why it being on EasyView at all is likely a mistake.

Funny thing is it used to be available on their free streaming option. These guys are seriously weird.
