Dstv and their unethical practices

YES YES YES we get it. They can and they do whatever the hell they want with no recourse for the user, THAT IS THE POINT, my god

Yes, they're dicks...

BUT they're not unethical about it... they're actually pretty open about it, and a hell of a lot of companies do the same sort of thing.

odd how others here don't seem to see that, maybe they work for dstv, or just have nothing better to do than sit on daddy's adsl account and spam forums.

Awww cute, is that the best you can come up with?

They are unethical about it by the very way they operate.

They take a service only they offer because of their monopoly and abuse it. They force people to comply with their business practices because we have no choice.

If they had competition and people could use other streaming services for sport do you for one second think they would pull a stunt like this? Is it unethical to abuse your position in the market. Jeez no, clearly not hey

Even with competition, yes I think they would pull a move like this.

Dont think so, people would just leave, all things being equal

You overestimate people.

Things like this are likely to make a tiny fraction of a percent difference to the churn rate for a company, but make a big difference to their bottom line.

So we are agreed its unethical :D

Paid the bill today in the morning and the services are STILL SUSPENDED EVEN NOW because **** you. My account's in the credit, according to the DSTV self-help webpage. What gives???? I tried calling all the useless numbers. Sent a lot of emails to all the useless email addresses which are found on the CONTACT US CLOWNS webpage. I SENT 2 TWITTERS TO @DSTVCARE. NOTHING CAME OUT OF IT. TERRIBLE SERVICE  Are they sleeping or what???

Did you pay via EFT, Credit Card, Cash what?

EFT can take a day or so to reflect, and only when it officially reflects on their system will the system action the re-connection.

Via Spar. According to the self-help webpage, I have nothing left to owe. Why can't they hurry the **** up and re-activate the services? Useless BEE-approved clowns.

These product seem to be BS, but I'm guessing the Skysports is probably good. Will I get to see local cricket, rugby (can't be arse about football) and others?

Them removing the streaming, cause they want more money...typical. And yes Travis, maybe in your eye it isn't unethical, but it seems you just being a dick for the sake of it. To me, this is piss poor move by them. I have no plan on getting a PVR. I pay for their **** service for my pensioner parents, so they can have something to watch and I can stream sport every now and then. Them taking it away makes me think exactly what some people said here. "Hey, how can we get bigger bonuses?" "Easy, lets **** them over a little more"

As to the ethics, toxic... Bait and switch.

To a degree yes.. I still agree that its a dick move in the extreme...

But I don't classify it as unethical, its not like they've sold the Premium package as having streaming and such on their platform, and then when you get it you find out you need to pay this extra fee. They've communicated the change, and it comes into effect after the communication.

IF in 2 or 3 months you still see advertising claiming the streaming and such, then yes that is unethical and massive bait and switch.
