HI,

Been a long time Premium subscriber, and currently have a dual view deconder, non pvr. I also own a walka, and often use dstv ondemand, and watch Supersport via my computer.

Today, logging on to Supersport, this message appeared:

In the near future, only DStv Premium customers with an active PVR will be able to access live streaming online and on mobile devices.

So even though I am a premium subscriber, there are removing features that are unrelated to my decoder. My watching sport etc. on my computer is streamed via the Internet, not via my decoder, my walka works without the decoder.

They also don’t offer a dual view pvr, and they said I would have to use my current decoder if I wanted dual view and then this would be linked to the pvr, what crap is this.

These clown increase their subscription fees every year, and now they want to still remove features. If they are forcing a client to use a pvr, then the pvr should be provided free, and installation should be covered.

This bullying tactic needs to stop, and Dstv should be ashamed.

The dual view decoder is no longer supported by them there have been a few articles about it. On the self service it also says that they dont have licences for producing dual view decoders it would be nice if mybb asks them why. Tecnically they do have dual view as you can buy 2 new decoders and link them together using extraview. Its a a bit messy with them continually changing the rules.

I really fail to see the unethical aspect of this...

Irritating yes, stupid maybe, but unethical no.

Unethical, as this is forced on the client, and they will remove features from your account while still charging the same price, and after April actually increasing the price. If they force a change then they should cover the cost of the change, as I see their new decoder is no benefit to me if I lose functionality. How does online and my walka get affected by which decoder I have, these services are part of the premium subscription, I have not changed my subscription, so they cannot remove features. But suppose in a country run by criminals, the rest just follow.

wow. those exploras must be doing very badly if they forcing people now to get them. get ready for a software update that will render your old decoder useless and them giving you a nice shiny explora.

No, it is not forced on the client.

If he doesn't want to pay for Premium, he can stop paying...

Nobody is forcing anything. You need to get off your pointless little high horse and actually pay attention to reality sometimes.

And btw, they can remove features... its in the T&C's, all companies do this from time to time, all over the world.

As much as you are allowed your opinion, I am allowed my opinion. If you cannot post anything of use, then please go play elsewhere.

What is your reality? Pay more, and have features removed, the typical South African way, more money means less service. If dstv had decent competition they would not be able to do this, but in a country run by monopolies, the consumer suffers. Why do you think no one invests here?

Most companies improve there service over time, and actually offer more. DSTV offer re-runs, and force redundancy

You are allowed your opinion.. but I am more than allowed to tell you that your opinion is wrong and pointless because it is.

What you are talking of is not actually the "South African" way. Many companies do it, all over the world. No one invests here? Are you fscking smoking your little pink socks? Really?

DSTV offers the same type of service with a similar level of re-runs etcetc as the other satellite providers on this planet.

Jeepers. I didn't realise MultiChoice have an enforcement squad in Lakeside. This is hectic - people there are forced to take out a DStv subscription against their will!

OP: This is serious intimidation. Report it at once at your local SAPS.

MC own the SAPS... don't you know.

Wonder why they doing this, to make people buy explora's?

Agreed its not very ethical behavior, but typical for them

What I am saying is I am losing functions based on dstv forcing me to upgrade my decoder, and this should not be allowed, but it seems like this forums is full of people who don't seem to find this behaviour unacceptable, and this is why DSTV and others will continue to do this.

What functionality are you losing?

You have been offered the streaming stuff for free as part of the Premium package. They have now migrated the Streaming option into the PVR Access fee...

Not the nicest move from them, but its a rationalisation of their product offering and probably makes business sense for them. If you don't like it, go to the competition.

I am losing the streaming and the ability to use my walka, neither which need a decoder to work. Imagine if a car manufacture prevented you from driving on the road a certain day because you had the previous version of a car?

What competition is there, if I want to watch the rugby, the cricket and the formula 1, please tell me what other service offers this sport? I want to watch this live as I currently do, not highlights or days late.

The reason for the lack of competition is the reason they do this.
