DStv billing problems - Incorrect debit orders deducted

Can get them to take a debit order from me for 3 months , I want to pay them money for a premium service but debit order does not go off despite multiple calls/emails/tweets to support
Dont do this! Pay them monthly yourself! You WILL regret setting up a DO with MC.

This is the joy of South Africa - Multichoice can keep doing this and nothing happens.
Toothless consumers that vent their anger on forums and Facebook.

It's really one of the best places on earth to do business as you can be as crooked as can be and they just keep flocking.

Thank you.

Yes definitely major problems with debit order deductions. i also starting having problems from end October 19 double the normal premium. took them 3 weeks to send me statements. on receipt of statements i was billed for things i was not subscribed to. eventually at begiining of december accounts dept contacted me and promised to take all those charges off my account. in the meantime my services was suspended 3 times and i paid the amounts they said i owed just to have services for the month. the lady that i was dealing with beginning of dec will only be back 6 jan. i am very unhappy with their service. deducting money for services i am not subscribed to is stealing bottomline. i have been a loyal subscriber for 20 odd years. they do not resolve our queries just disconnect or debit your account with ridiculous amount when you speak to them about it they tell you you dont understand how statements work. what should i understand ? i have a monthly subscription and the movies i rent not the 10 charges on my account that they cannot explain.
Cut the cord.

Did that a year ago after being a customer for ~10 years and paying exorbitant monthly subscriptions, and never looked back.

Investigate the alternatives and rid yourself of mindless repeats and pathetic service. It's like freeing your soul.

I’ve had an issue since signing up for The Black Friday special of R799 per month including Xtraview. I’ve been a subscriber for 20 years plus, and never had such awful service from any supplier.
I have call the Call Centre three times, tweeted and still no resolution. I’ve been overcharged which amounts to theft. They help they provide is simply inadequate and a waste of time.
Do we all lay criminal charges of theft? Surely you can’t take money out of an account without approval?

The applicable criminal charge would be fraud.

It's a pity that DebiCheck doesn't appear to allow the maximum debit amount to be specified.

It does. Problem is they didn't make it mandatory.

So a maximum limit is an optional field when a new debit order contract is registered with DebiCheck?

If that's the case, all consumers that have specified a maximum amount, should decline the approval requests, if the contract data is incorrectly captured.

DebiCheck does have an amount field according to the banks. But not everyone is using DebiCheck yet.

I had major issues with my business banking because unbeknownst to me these imbeciles put an adverse comment on my personal credit record every month for two years because they were processing the debit order a week later than the due date. I had to threaten legal action to get them to clear my record and to this day I can’t make head or tale of my account which seems to comprise multiple charges and reversals for random amounts for what should be a simple monthly subscription.

Is it a maximum amount field or exact amount field?

If it's an exact amount field, the system requirements were not properly defined and problems will soon be encountered.

And it's not like you will use debicheck on long existing debit orders, so no maximum limit would be on those debit orders, right?
Only for new debit order contracts where the company doing the debiting supports DebiCheck, presumably one could cancel old debit orders and enter into new DebiCheck contracts but that would be quite a hassle that most would not be willing to endure.

MonoChoice has no incentive to fix its billing **** and once MonoChoice has your bank account details it is already too late to prevent the inevitable plundering, the only thing you can do is lodge a dispute with your bank and reverse the disputed debit order transaction. And if you open a new bank account, never give MonoChoice the new bank account details.

As I understand it it's effectively a maximum amount so the institution is allowed to take less. The new system is a contract so allows for many more parameters like amount, date, occurrence, frequency and you can also cancel it any time. The old system is not a contract but is simply a request each month which is why banks can't block it permanently. I foresee however that companies like MC will specify arbitrary amounts like R2k. People should outright refuse such requests and force them to set up the correct contracts.

As I see it there's 3 rules. Don't give MC, Telkom or Sars your bank account details.
