DStv BoxOffice on-demand movie beta testing update

Dstv BoxOffice?

Why exactly would I use a service like this?

Well, with a HTPC setup + 4MB internet (10 if lucky), one can stream 100s of channels using XBMC + SuperTV plugin. They would have to do alot (price and quality) to sway us over.

Thinking of dropping DSTV and saving over R500, lounge is setup for streaming and works great :).

I would really love to see an ALL you Can Rent feature, a la NETFLiX :D.

Multichoice, you've done it again. That could be the most useless Q&A I've ever read.

Seriously, a lot of time would have been saved by just saying "It's a trial. More trial stuff. Trial Trial Trial. Thanks"

What am I missing here? When I had my DSTV in Jan it had Box Office already, so WTF is this now? :wtf:

actually answering the questions would have been an embarrassment for them, and it usually is.

The Online version of their Box Office service, which means there will be a bigger library of movies to choose from if it does become available.

Pity MYBB doesn't have to pay for paper and ink, if that was the case we wouldn't have been subjected to the waste of a Q & A

I still don't get why BoxOffice is only available to Premium subscribers. Why not make it available to any DSTV account holder?

I already have Box Office On Demand... it's called "THE INTERNET" :D

Nah, you'rs is called Box Office on Demand+... you know, without any of the BS that Multichoice will attach to their stupid offering, and yours will be more current as well.

Will you be keeping prices the same when the service comes out of beta?

The full details of the offering will be announced at launch.

How many of the registered users use the service monthly?

Volumes are what we would expect from a small closed group of users. The registered users have been supportive in contributing to the feedback survey which is indicative of usage.

Which movies are more popular: the slightly more expensive New Releases, or Classics?

Tastes vary dramatically but we’ve found that both categories are appreciated in their own right.

How many rentals do you see in a month?

The numbers vary from one week to the next, but are what we would expect from a trial service.

How much bandwidth do you use every month from just serving movies from DStv BoxOffice Online?

The bandwidth usage is negligible, purely based on the small number of users we currently have signed up and the variance in weekly rentals.

Ok, so they basically didn't answer any of your questions...?

**** you.

I would have written an article based on what DSTV came back to me with, and that is to "scold" them for having vague to non-existent answers for pretty straight forward questions.

It's like if you asked Blizzard "How is the beta going?" and they respond with "It's neither good or bad" and then "How many users are currently signed on" with an answer like "An average amount of people"..... WTF???

And if we don't publish it we get raked over the coals for not asking these questions.

I think you've just defined a key difference between a news journalist and a blogger (no disrespect to either intended, both have their roles, I think). The way I see it, my opinion is largely irrelevant unless it's absolutely necessary to provide context. Even then it would be better to get expert opinions instead.

In this particular instance the context was provided by the questions we asked.

I'm here (by and large) to bring you the news, not to tell you what to think. Not that I won't write the occasional column, where I have time, of course.
