DStv CatchUp and BoxOffice problems

DStv CatchUp and BoxOffice problems

MultiChoice said it is aware of problems with its DStv CatchUp and BoxOffice services, and is working to resolve them.
MC have been "working to resolve them" for ages now. And they haven't yet. I recently bought the Explora to replace my aged Pace HDPVR 4T, and I am sorry I ever considered the Explora.

I also cannot get remote recording to work. Keeps on saying I need to ensure my explora is connected, which it is. Support is also useless.

have you activated the service on the explora?

I have followed the steps on their site. Just watched a video on their site where it states you need to enable auto delete of recordings for this to work. Will give that a try.

Remember to go to the DSTV website to link/enable the explora for remote recording.

So have you got so many recordings that the HDD is full by any chance? This is the only way that a problem like this could require the auto delete to be set so as that ensures viewed recordings are deleted as soon as they are viewed when the HDD reaches maximum capacity. Not a useful feature at all! As now anyone that views a recording will see that recording immediately deleted.

The problems are like the film, a Never Ending Story.

No, got more than 50% free on the explora. It is linked on the dstv site and the explora states that it is online. Not a big problem as I don't think I would use it often, but not being able to get it to work bugs me.

My worst is the DSTV Now app. Every time a new version of Android comes along and I update, the app tells me my device is unsupported and refuses to open. It takes months for the useless devs to update the app to accommodate whatever the latest version of Android is.

Pretty sure that the auto delete has nothing to do with the problems you are experiencing. Have checked with quite a few Explora owners and on NONE of their decoders have they set that feature.

No the issue is with the setup and authentication system MC uses. Even though things are set, the only way is to start from scratch, do the things in exactly the order they claim, toggle all settings off and back on one at a time, and pray.

Yes! The same even happens on some PCs.

The company appointed by DStv to keep the Apps up to date is very slow to react to new devices and OS system changes. It seems they have no advance information system in place and are always caught with their pants down.

The real problem is that they're incompetent morons. Who sets an app to not function if the detected firmware is higher than the latest officially supported one?

Best case you have to constantly stay on top of Android updates, and worst case your users frequently lose access to your app. Genius.

The route cause is MCs total paranoia about piracy. ANY change is viewed as being an attempt to pirate content. ....

Apart from the code written for these Apps which is really not up to standard either ..... Most of the MC Apps appear to not even pass the most rudimentary tests.

Yeah, wasn't auto delete. Sorry multichoice, it was me not reading the screen. An old decoder was still linked as the main decorder for some reason, even though it was no longer active. Linked the explora to my account and now it works.
