DSTV changes 1 Oct & 7 new HD channels

All the documentary channels ought to be in HD. But I'll take Nat Geo, Animal Planet & History as a start. Or BBC Knowledge or discovery world. Ok, all of them.

I watched Animal Planet in HD in UK last year, different shows but watching it in HD was an experience.

Do you know who would be a good contact to do this upgrade for complexes? in jhb area

Hmmmm... same channel numbers? That potentially sucks hugely. I sometimes lose my HD channel (signal breakup) and have to resort to watching the SD channel. This happened quite a few times on channel 174 while the Proteas/England tests were on.
WTF would I do after this change?
.

I was wondering the same. I have an HD pvr but non-HD TV. I watch (and record) the channels in SD - how would that work now?

There is a vague mention that complexes with a central dish will have to make changes. Anyone know what that entails?

Not all systems. Single cable IF conversion systems need to be upgraded, because 6 additional horizontal transponders will be added in the coming months.

Do you stay in a complex?

Ok, I already have one or two people in our complex complaining that some of their channels are not working for a while now and my assumption is this change might add more channels to that list?

I don't have DSTV so I have no idea what their problem actually is. We have a central dish which feeds to the 10 units. I just assumed there was a simple splitter in the roof under the dish, but are you saying there's more to it than that?

Yes, there is more to it.

If it's ten units only, I do not think it is a system that needs upgrading... System probably just needs a checkup, by a knowledgeable installer. Let me know if you need me to refer you to someone in your area.

EDIT: Actually, they might need to upgrade. If it is a switching system, you need a second feed into the unit for HD/XtraView.
