DSTV Channel 403

Like feo said in another thread(not related), they roll their r's. It sounds stupid, they try to sound American :p ;) :D

Not bad. I prefer CNBC. They have become much better in the last month or two. Just wish they would cut back on the crossings to Kenya and Nigeria.

Its good, only thing i dont like is the constant "where its always primetime" tagged onto every sentence they make.

Hopefully this will end as soon as they feel people get it.

One thing i do like is they dont seem to repeat the same stories as badly as cnn does. Over all im pleased, ive had it playing in the background for quite a few hours the last fews days. That if anything says alot.

Also their theme tune goes on a bit, clearly they dont have enough of their ad spots filled and so play they this quite often. Hopefully that will also change.

Are you referring to the weatherman? :D

He rolls his R's because he IS American. ;)

There was a white South African reporter, a lady the other day. When she speaks fast you can hear exactly she's South African, when she "thinks" what to say she sounds like a daft American :p

agreed

I'm impressed so far - its a startup - I'd like to see recordings of CNN's first few days/months/years! There are obviosuly going to be stuff ups in the beginning.

They'll go from strength to strength I believe.

Why an American? No one here who can do the weather? They have him on regular E news, too. Seem to have got rid of the South African weather women there. How the hell does he get a work permit? Taking our jobs! :D

Why are we so impressed with Americans or just their accents? At least when our local fools mispronounce the city and town names, they are our fools. :o Not some imported fool with gelled hair.

Tell you this, you won't find a Saffrican doing the weather on a US TV station. Or are they imagining in their small minds that this 24hr E News is like CNN?

Why did your boss employ you? No other person that can do the job? ;)

If he's good, then why not give him a chance? IMO, he's much better at explaining what's actually going on with the weather than SABC's mediocre weather reporters.

A few technical glitches here and there but I like it. Great to have something independent and local 24/7 in SA.

I work for myself ('cause no one will employ me). :D

How good does he have to be? Isn't he just regurgitating what he gets from the SA Weather Service ? http://www.weathersa.co.za/ E doesn't have their own weather service, does it?

My point is that the skill he has is obtainable here so a South African should get the job. There are a lot fewer "weatherman" jobs here than in the US and, to repeat, they would never employ a South African accent on a US TV station. We should look after our own people first. Like the Americans do.

He's obviously doing something right as he used to work for NBC. Obviously ETV saw potential in this guy and hired him to do the job. And no, employing a South African citizen to do it will only result in some BEE appointed idiot standing there and struggling to pronounce proper English.

May be an idiot but it will be OUR idiot! BTW, he also needs to learn how to pronounce the names of some of our towns. Beeufort West? :D

Well I for one am not bothered about everything that's american. I saw the american weather guy and just shook my head. It reminds me of those idiotic Dros adverts with the american voiceover. Drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrros! As un-South African as you could possibly get.
I prefer South Africans on local news channels. I guess that's why I enjoyed the Oscars so much since almost every winner was a foreigner. ;)
