Hi guys. I need some help. Recently a few of my channels died. All i can see are black and the menu. When i am on said channel both tuners have no signal but as soon as i move to a working channel my quality is at 100% and strength at 98%. There are a few channels that don’t work; CI and History are the two i can remember. I have tested 2 different LNB "eyes" and installed brand new cables so i know there isn’t any fault with them. Note i can record said dead channels but watching them they appear as if there is a heavy storm/wind outside. I have switched the cables at the back of the decoder and have restarted the decoder more than 10 times with nothing changing, even left it unplugged for a full day. Please help!!

What decoder do you have? and what LNB are you using (and size of dish).

It seems you are only getting one of the polarisation and not both signals. It could be faulty LNB (which you say you have tested) or it could be a faulty multiswitch. check these two out first the last thing to test would be actual decoder itself.

Quantum theory would be the best person to ask on the forums for help on this - he seems to be a guru on DSTV matters :D

I have a HD PVR P2 with a twin LBN. I am not sure about the size of the dish but the channels all worked fine and then started to die. First was History and then CI and only noticed a few days ago that some of the other channels i dont watch also dead.

Stupid questions:

  • did you check that all the cables are still attached?
  • did you reset the decoder?

you said once you checked and replaced them all did you reset and rescan all the channels back in again?

Just maybe put the new LNB back on again (if it still not on the dish) and contact multichoice and they should be able to walk you through to rescan all your channels in again

Yes all cables are still connected. By reset do you mean unplugging it or holding the power button in for 5 sec? Cause i did both of them, multiple times. But i heard there is another way of resetting or something like that which i haven’t done.

Yes i contacted them after doing a few rescans. Still the dead channels stayed dead. I am still waiting for them to phone me back and that was about 4 days ago, hence me turning to the public for help.

Thanks, i am currently away on work so will only be able to give this a go when i return. Could ask my fiancé but then i might have to buy a new one hehe. Will report on it later.

No worries hopefuly Quantum will step into the thread early next week before you start, as I mentioned he is the main guy on all DSTV matters on the forums here.

My Explora does that, especially after watching recorded content, before I watched the recorded stuff 101 was working, after the show 101 is black, some days I leave it like that, and next day it works, but if I want immediate re-acction then to reboot fix the problem

I hope ill be able to get it fixed as soon as possible. Tomorrow night when i get home ill see if ISP's link can fix it for me, if not ill ask Quantum.

Probably bad dish alignment... but impossible to say, without being there. Get an installer with the right instrumentation, to come and have a look.

Should i first try re-aligning it or go for the factory reset? I would like to give it a go myself before “phoning a friend”. As I live a few kms out of town getting someone to come and fix it could cost me a fair amount, so would like to see if I can’t fix it.

Try a reset. Doubt it will work. Check LNB skew, check dish allignment...

Okay, will report back tomorrow. The thing i just can’t understand is that everything worked fine but the suddenly out of the blue channels started to die. History was the first with CI still working and then that too died.

I've got the same problem, only certain channels and only on my secondary decoder, primary is an hd pvr and all channels working. The secondary is a dsd 1110 and also just stopped working in the way op mentioned for channels like 130 and 203(only channel i needed on this tv :() I suspect dish alignment too, although nothing changed.
