I read in the other threads that you don't need to pay for PVR on a PVR if you don't want to and then someone else said you must pay the 65 bucks for HD as well. So what if I am a Compact subscriber and want HD, do you then simply pay 65 bucks extra as well.

No, the HD channels are not part of the Compact bouquet. What made you think you'd have choice with DSTV?

1) You DONT need to pay for PVR if you dont want to. PVR access costs R65
2) HD channels are only available to premiun subscribers, you do not pay extra if you become a premium subscriber to accces the HD channels.
3) If you pay R65 for PVR this also covers Xtraview access, so no need to pay twice (check your account as some have reported to being double billed).

You're paying far more than twice, once for the hardware to be able to handle the PVR functionality, and then once EVERY month to use the hardware that you bought.. go figure.

Exactly, this has boggled my mind since time and memorial.

carudden & acib So you get petrol for free? Why must i pay for a car AND petrol? Think of the content. Lets face it we are a bunch of moaners and no doer's. Mnet and all other companies will and can screw us for the most.
A couple of years ago there was an article on SABC about the holiday trade in Durban. The person said "We charge the highest amount the market can afford" go figure!

You have to pay for a decoder, somebody has to make it. pay for access, somebody has to supply it, pay for content, somebody has to again make it.

You would want an HD Channel on Compact? go to the dstv forum and suggest it hehe

At the risk of stating the obvious... the HD channel appear only on the premium offering. So even if they "allowed you access to HD" you'd still not be able to view the premium channels.

I see on my 1110 compact decoder that on the first two HD channels show E16 but the Discovery one says the message it says when it rains.Anyone know if it will work on an Hd decoder with compact

Yes, it shouldn't be possible to even see the HD channel numbers.

I always wondered on my SD decoder the HD channels are on specialist bouquet on HD PVRs which bouquet are the HD channels on.

I fail to see your logic here, obviously you're not a DStv subscriber, the point that I was merely trying to make is that I cannot understand why the content provider charges me an access fee to the content and then another fee to record it.
