Hi all, needing some advice I have recently setup a Plex server and need to find a way to connect my tv with one hdmi port to my pc and dstv decoder. I have looked at chromecast as well as apple tv.

Is there a way to connect my dstv to PC?

Yes a few options.
A surround sound amp or sound bar with hdmi can be used or a hdmi switch like this:

Very cool idea. My motherboard (Asrock Z97E itx) has an HDMI passthrough. Is there anyway to set that as a media capture device?

DSTV HD decoders can detect capture devices and downgrade the quality to SD automaticaly. I don't know if there are ways or some gadget you can use to trick the decoder.

Ditch DSTV and use Kodi/Genesis.
