Hi everyone,

Ok before I get to the above subject, need to give a kwik background. TV got hit by lighning. Got a new TV and reception is fuzzy, not good at all on all channels incl DSTV. So went to multichoice for them to check my single view DSTV decoder (non pvr).

So back to the subject...I noticed when they tested it, they plugged in the red/white/yellow connectors (like you would for a dvd player), and tested the reception. All was fine. Then they unplugged the red/white/yellow connectors and plugged in their antenna etc. That worked too, so the decoder is fine and seems the lighting knocked out something on external aerial or dish. I digress though...as usual.

What I noticed when they were testing the decoder is the reception / quality of the picture was much better when they connected via the red/white/yellow connectors compared to the antenna connector. I had no idea this could be done? Is it as simple as going home and plugging in my spare dvd cable from the decoder into the TV?

If it is that simple...Im gonna be irritated cos been watching TV via the antenna in the decoder since always?

don't feel alone bru .... I also didn't know that until right now :o;):D

Composite > Antenna
S-Video > Composite
RGB > S-Video
HDMI > RGB

or something along those lines, there may be more in between.

I see from the article that those red/white/yellow connectors (Composite), are not much better at all compared to antenna. At Multichoice the difference was very big. I wonder if it depends on personal setup though?

Composite you're gonna get a good signal. With the antenna route, you could have intereference, be badly tuned, etc.

So what werner is saying is that a perfectly tuned aerial connection is (almost) as good as a Composite conenction.

thanks carudden..yes that is almost it.

the reason i lump composite so low down (where it belongs) is because it truly does pale in comparison to components/svideo/hdmi etc.

normally you go "composite...UGH!" but if you have been using an antenna connection then I suppose composite is a nice step up.

Ask Dolby on here the difference between composite and rgb...he changed his telly connection to rgb and i think he freaked for a week about how much better it was.

Tis true ...

Decided one day to try everything for myself - with my own eyes - and RGB/component is much better than composite. The real difference for me was the info screens : the blacks were darker, bolder and didn't flicker.
