So this is not actually a holiday home but i rather call it that then explaining further.
I have a HD PVR2 and DSD110 (extraview).
At this other home, it has a DSTV signal - just 1 cable though.

So, can i use the DSD as is (programmed for extraview though it may look for the heartbeat).
Otherwise, can i take the HD smartcard and insert into the DSD (hoping this will kill off the search for the heartbeat).
If no to the above:
Can i take the PVR, only LNB as mentioned - would it work?
And i dont want to ask Multichoice (maybe they charge extra), or upgrade the other home to dual LNB...
Basically i dont want to pay anything.
Can any of this be done.

If you don’t have a decoder and smartcard at your holiday home, but your satellite dish is already installed, then all you have to do is cart along your primary decoder and smartcard with you, connect your cables, and you can be enjoying your holiday viewing in no time at all!

By primary decoder in your case would be the PVR but it won't work properly with the single LNB imo.

You cannot use the PVR's smart card in the DSD as each card is linked to it's decoder.

Try switching the PVR-1100 setup around, so that the PVR is the one looking for the heartbeat. Then take the 1100 on holiday with you.

SO DSD is out.
Will the PVR work on one cable, i read somewhere on this forum that it is possible (search functionality is not great).

Possibly the last option.
I dont mind carting around the PVR, just not sure if it will work on one cable.

Seriously, change it around so that the PVR cannot function without the DSD. (i.e the DSD supplies the heartbeat for the PVR. Then it's a simple matter of pick up the DSD and take that with you, and plug into the single cable. I haven't done the configuration myself, but I know at the last place I lived, the DSD was in my place, and the PVR with the landlord, and he used to get almightily pissed off the DSTV to vacuum, because his PVR no longer received a heartbeat. So this config is definitely possible. And I seem to get the impression that it can be done by you, no need to get MC to do it.

Thanks. Looks like this maybe the only option.
Have to get check it out.

It will work,I remember using my HD Pvr with only one cable. When I bought it I didnt have a dual lnb at the time I could watch but I could not record anything.

1.The only problem I think you will have is that you will not be able to record only view dstv channels.

2.If the LNB at the holiday home is a satcr lnb then you can use one cable to watch and record ,it just depend on the type of LNB

Try it at home with only one cable if it works then you do not need to change anything on the PVR.Then you can just use the PVR on holiday without calling MC
