Yesterday my dad cleared branches around his house and a branch knocked off the LNB. The bracket broke and he tried to fix it but now the signal is not so good.

I told him he can have my old Dual LNB, PVR decoder and the splitter box thingy.

Now my questions:
1. I need to go there and install it tomorrow do I just put in the new LNB and run the cables, splitter and what not to the new decoder?
2. Will the decoder work off the bat or is there something he needs to arrange with Mulitchoice?
3. He doesn't want the PVR and HD function just the normal premium. This will work on the PVR right?

1. If the dish didn't move then it should be OK
2. You will need to have the decoder transferred onto his name and you have to be at a branch to do that (that's what they say, but I just faxed the proof that I sold mine and they moved it to their account. Try your luck)
3. Yes

OK, went through my mailbox, I actually sent them an email:

Thank you for your email.
Our records indicate that Change of Ownership on decoder number P400362*** has been processed successfully.
Best wishes

Damn it.

So do I just write a letter with the serial number and my ID number saying I sold it to him and he takes it to the branch? I thought it's just a phone call. Will get him to do that today then before I go there tomorrow.

Or just leave the decoder in your name and give him the details to pay it.

If you get a new decoder you have to go through all the hoops for it as well, rather just do it once.

I haven't used it for over 3 years :D It was just in a cupboard gathering dust.

I only have their response to confirm it was done, but they seem to be an automated message. It doesn't have my original mail.

What I would do is send them the mail (there might be a form, check on their site, blocked here at my work), then give them an hour and then call them.

You have your father's ID number at the ready?

A truck took our LNB off and bent the dish in half at work.
Guy came here, bent it straight, put a new bracket on the wall and aligned the lot.
Cost R350 in total and signal good as ever.

I just figured I'll give my old decoder to my dad.

I haven't used DSTV in years and he still has those very old decoders. I think the first ones that came out in the late 90's :D

Get someone to install it for you, won't cost more than R400 and then zero hassles your side :)

Yea I can do that, no problem.
But will they be able to do it tomorrow though on such short notice?

Actually, I'll call an installer. But I still have to do the name change on the decoder thingy right? Or will they do it?

That part I can't hep you with, call a couple of local installers, get quotes and use the cheapest to bring the others down if you have the time.
