Im not sure where to post this thread, so feel free to move it :)

im having problems with a dstv decoder on my dads farm..

its a really old decoder, a dsd 720, but i just wanna make sure there isnt a chance of saving it before chucking it..

a few days ago very faint horizontal lines began appearing on the screen, over the last few days they became more and more definite and yesterday the signal bacame totally scrambled, then last night signal was lost altogether and now the decoder just loops the same process over and over, first it says '8117', then '1', then 'dl', then '00:00'' then it starts over again..

can ne1 help? would be much appreciated..
thanx

yip go into your menu check the signal quality

it could your lmb on the blink thats what happened to mine

call out the dstv okes and they will sort it out chip chop

Dunno about the line problem, but the issues last night sound like software ..

Perhaps you have a Ghost in your Machine! :D

Have you tried googling that model for known error codes?

My girlfriend bought a new decoder over the weekend and I was surprised at the cost : R399.99 including the smartcard. I still remember a few years ago when a decoder was R2500.00 and the smartcard an additional R150.00 :/

That is the special that MChoice is running...

If you could spare the R400 Bucks, chuck the old decoder for a new one :o

Hey! Mine did exactly the same... starting with the horizontal lines 2 days ago, and today was the last time it got to the menu. When I rebooted it it couldnt get any bouquets, and when I booted it again it did the 8117...

Probably symptoms capacitor or power transistor that "expired"... ;) Time to spend more time outdoors. In the snow. Sheesh it's cold! They should change Spring Day to October 1st!

Well have you seen what is inside the latest DSTV decoders... pretty much very little.... It's a very low cost platform with all the work done in software.

If you really want another 720 they are quite cheap from 2nd hand shops for around R200. They have some advantages such as more connections at the back.

But don't you then have the hassle of having to get Multichoice to 'marry' any new or secondhand decoder you buy, to your existing smartcard?

I'm also having problems with an old 720i which keeps dropping the radio stations until it warms up (about an hour!) -- but I'd prefer not to have to bother with the bureaucracy of getting a replacement decoder 'matched'.
