Hi Guys

Is it worth getting a dual view decoder? At the moment I'm only going to get the Vodacom 16 thing, cause I don't watch TV, and my girlfriend does... but seeing as the new providers might also run off the DSTV decoders, is it worth getting the dual view instead?

Not interested in a PVR... using Media Center.

Thanks.

I thought Dual View have been discontinued?

Only aware of the normal one (DSD 990) and the PVR.

Great feature of the Dual View at home is, I can watch 90% of the channels on 2 TV's without coughing up an extra R700 for the twin LNB. :D

Even if you are using Media Center I would still recommend the PVR over dual view. It's a bigger initial outlay but then the payments are the same and the PVR really is fantastic...

Do you have more than 1 tv though, otherwise it would be quite pointless :P

Dont think new providers will use dstv decoders. They'll have their own you'll need to buy.

I have a media center.. so the decoder will be put in the cupboard and never seen... the media center PC will handle everything else....

There are quite a few... Media Portal, etc.

I'm using Windows Vista's Media Center... Has all my music, personal video's & photo's, etc. and records TV to the harddisk...

The reason for the dual view would be to record TWO channels at the same time, or watch one, record one.

Get yourself a secondhand 720i model from the DSTV classifieds section. It sounds like you need only one single view decoder and the 720i and older single view models have multiple outputs like RCA, Scart, s-video and coax, where as the new single views have coax and RCA only.

Thanks for the tip.

Quick question... they'll obviously have to release new decoders when HDTV is launced/tested in a year or two right?

Yes, but if you consider how far behind they are in bringing us widescreen viewing I would not count on their promises to launch HDTV before 2010.

You probably find its going to be accelerated now due to competion.

The dual view have been discontinued, so its the 990 or pvr. I am sure you will be able to use the "DSTV" decoders with other providers smart cards. If it cannot be done as is, someone will hack it.

So now dual view? What happens to people who have dual view decoders?
