Dstv Dish

Ok what I’m thinking is, to get a LNB with one cable to the decoder but add a 2 way splitter. Will that work?
Currently I am running the one cable from the dish to the decoder and one cable from the TV antenna.

That won't give you full functionality on a PVR

Not running a PVR its a old dual view decoder.

ok, then still not. You can only get one polarity at a time with a single LNB, so for example if you are watching SS1 in the lounge and your wife wants to watch E! in the room its not going to work. You can either both watch horizontal channels or both vertical channels, not both at the same time

I am not 100% sure with the old dual view decoders as I hav enly setup my normal single decoder and HD PVR decoder and I could be wrong with the below.

but how many LNB in ports have you got at the back of your dual view decoder does it not require both cables from the dual view to be inputted in (getting two signals in to show two different channels?)

Ok I did not take the dual view option (extra View) at MC, the second TV in my kids room is for her to have her DVDs.
The previos ppl got the same install but with the Dual LNB but running only one cabel to his decoder and one just somewhere in to his moms house. He told me that on the dual view decoder it will work with one cabel.
And for the LNB ports on the decoder there is 2 at the back.

Is the two LNB's at the back of the decoder one for In and one for out?

Or do you have two LNB in ports?

@ ISP cc
There is 2 LNB in on the decoder, it sounds like the one was from the dish and the second one from the TV antenna

It has 2 LNB ports, anything that can do more then view 1 has more then 1 LNB input

I would assume using just a single will allow you to view 1 without any issues, I haven't had a dual view decoder though so can't say for sure. Maybe QT can confirm

The one from the TV antenna should go to RF in, and not an LNB port

I agree 100% here with Smurffatefrog.

My opinion is if it the "true" dualview decoder, not extra view but the actual dualview decoder that predated the PVR where you could watch two channels at the same time on different tv's. Then you wouldmore than likely have two LNB in ports for your dual view cables to plug into (you would require a seperate signal coming in per cable to allow the "dual" part of the view. I would assume that if you plug both in you would be able to watch two different channels on different tv's (if set up).

alternatively it seems like the previous tenants used the dual view only as a decoder. That is only plug in one cable and you can watch only 1 channel at a time. so basically skipping the second channel out all together.

If you are only using the one viewing environment, a single LNB will work on the old dual view... Use LNB input 1 and antenna goes to RF in (as Smurf said).

So there wont be a problem in getting a LNB with only one cabale? unless I want to have it on 2 TVs and we can have diffrent channels on them at the same time

Just saw QTs reply thanks cant be that difficult to do then lol
Thanks for all the help

Thanks to all that helped with the LNB... But I ended up getting a new decoder as well now I just need to get the dish to work properly then its a go lol
