DSTV Drifta

What do you mean? Watching rugby on top of my roof is awesome! Granted it was slightly chilly during that last cold front :P

That's about what it will come to for some people ... LOL! It's like watching the Boks play NZ in Dunedin ... in the middle of Roodepoort.

I have the Nokia 5330 - which is it quite awesome, the screen is small but the picture is clear. I have had good reception all around Cape Town. its quite handy when you are sitting around for 10 minutes in your car or something. I was going to get the drifta but then I figured that you always need to have a laptop around as well, at least this way you keep the phone in your pocket and you can check on the score of a game almost instantly.

yes in your wifi networks that is displayed it takes a while but should show the drifta then you connect to it like a ad-hoc connection then it should pic up

What are your settings, if you go Settings->Decoder?
Mine are:
serverIp: 192.168.16.30
portNumber:8081
Use Remote: Off
ResetPairing: Off
Scan Frequency (MHz): 0

It's the bottom one that looks somewhat fishy, so interested to see what other people have.

OK, getting tired of waiting. Does anyone have an email address for Customer Care/Complaints?
I filled in the form on the website yesterday, no response.
I registered for their forum yesterday, awaiting activation.

The whole reason I bought this thing was to use it with my iphone, so if it not's gonna work I'm gonna take it back.

Take it back with iphone and get them to make it work for you.

Take it where, exactly?
I bought it online and I can't, for the life of me, find the flippin dealer locations on their useless website.

Sorry - "I'm gonna take it back" were the words you used first in your post .

Hack to play full screen

@IceQB - yeah careful the unit auto updates, mine did and now the hack no longer works. Now there some who are patiently waiting for someone to hack 1.3.1 ;)

Hi,

Have you managed to hack the drifta software to allow for full screen broadcasting?

I have tried so many different options to try and project on my projector but keep on hitting dead ends and would appreciate any advice that you
might have.....

Wish that DSTV wouldn't be so restrictive but I imagine they have their own greedy reasons.....

Cheers

They have a big customer care centre next to N1 city mall.

Took it over there on Friday and managed to solve the problem myself whilst talking to one of the help guys.
Turns out the Onavo data shrinking app on my iphone installed an APN profile that was interfering somehow with the drifta. As soon as I deleted the profile the phone connected and could play channels. Weird, since it's meant to be wifi only, but there must have been some interference somewhere...

the reason dstv is not allowing the image to be resized is beause the more you stretch it the quality is bad
dvb-h only broadcasts in the small size 320 x 280
we can hack it to allow us to stretch it.but the quality will be reduced. alot!
so its not dstv - its meant for small screens*(phones, tablets)

The quality isn't great but if you want to have a look just replace your decoder.exe with this hacked one.

Drifta not working on IPhone 4

I am creating this reply so that others like me can find the solution much easier.

Drifta does not work on latest iPhone 4 firmware
iPhone 4 error message
iPhone 4 says no channels found
iPhone 4 tries to connect to drifta but times out or fails

The answer to my issue was that a data saving app called Onavo created it's own APN profile which was somehow conflicting with Drifta. The fact that the drifta was broadcasting via wireless meant nothing, the profile was causing the error.

Once I removed (deactivated) the Onavo profile my IPhone 4 was able to connect to the drifta and receive image, yippee!

I hope this helps some people as sometimes you don't phrase the error correctly when googling and come up with basically 0 results...

Thanks for the heads up!

I suppose you'll see the largest image on the ipad since the app on there can go full screen. So far, i only got it for the sport channels and at R36 per month, that's still a pretty good deal, especially if you don't have a full DSTV sub going (like me).

You definitely won't be using this all the time, the other channels are pretty crappy and very light on content. We're talking 2-4 hours of content per channel on a 24hr loop. E-News and CNN is ok to catch up on some news, but i have not found the other channels worth watching (except for Supersport 1,2,3 which is most likely this device's main selling point) , even Mnet Series is basically just Jerry Springer every hour *sigh*.

Oh and i mentioned it elsewhere, you can not output the stream via HDMI from the ipad to your tv (most likely the same thing with iphone)....the app will block it, so don't buy this for your iphone/ipad thinking you are going to throw it up on the big screen. So on a tablet like the ipad with a 9.8" display it's fine to use at work or at home and watch from the couch, but on a phone i'd only get this if i am traveling alot during the sport events and want to catch some of it on the move.
