DSTV Drifta

I guess quality is different for different people. I'd be willing to bet a lot of the users who are happy with a pixilated full screen picture are the same users who are happy watching a movie that's been recorded in a cinema with a camcorder.

Poor assumption I suspect. You'd be wrong in my case at least. Would I enjoy a better quality picture? Seriously, who wouldn't? But for R36 per month I get the three best Supersport channels with quality comparable to most streaming options accessible through Telkom ADSL but no buffering/drops.

For me it was a choice between DSTV or uncapped internet. I can't justify both and I would only be interested in the SuperSport channels anyway. Now at least I can watch the rugby without having to drive to Spur. That's why I settle for that quality.

I saw a Drifta for the first time today. Why does the aerial look like it was put in upside down?

Yah, the aerial is a kak design.

you telling me. I asked my brother to see one as I thought it was a big thing and he pulls out something that looks like a cellphone and I was amazed but then he pulls out the aerial and the flippin' thing is back to front. That aerial must be the first thing to break on a Drifta or what? How can you design something like that with a flimsy aerial like that?

I've seen it on an ipad, iPhone and my desire HD. I have to say, iPhone wins.
Would rival a standard definition TV IMHO.

I'm very big on quality and wouldn't own a drifta if I thought it was ****.
Must admit that watching football is a slight pain... Too much movement with motion blur it isn't great.

Ipad is very good too

anyone whos using the drifta on their htc desire?

can you tell me if u also getting random freezes in the broadcast? like every 20-30 secs? it stops for like 5secs and then continues?

pretty frustrating

Nope ... pretty smooth on mine - which OS are you running?

Still can't find it in the market even though my stock Desire 2.3 is supposed to be supported now.

Anyone know why?

Have you tried using the web link on a PC, as you can send apps to your phone and dont have to be on the phone to install it?

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.valups.tivit.app.finaldstv

Edit: oddly when I use the link my Desire HD is not supported, but my plain desire is (They both running MIUI.us 1.9.9 Android 2.3.5)

Tried it, and says my phone "Vodacom HTC HTC Desire" is not supported. Could it be my stock 2.3 upgrade that not many people have done?

I don't understand requests like this. Please go read this, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVB-H . In a nutshell, the DVB-H signal is broadcast in 320x240 as its designed to do. The DSTV allows you to double up that size... but you will already notice a drop in quality. Going fullscreen is going to mean it's barely watchable.

If this upsets you, perhaps you should have done your research before buying the product.

The thing that pisses me off is the way that the salespeople show you how this looks on an iPad, but not on a PC or laptop :-(

Bought a Drifta from Incredible Connection on Saturday. Installed the sw on a Windows 7 and another Windows XP PC. Hooked up the Drifta, and guess what !

1) On the Windows 7 PC, got an error each time when launching the DSTV Mobile program. Do not know what the error is, as you cannot open the error box. Had to kill the process in Task Manager.

2) On XP, the DSTV Mobile program crashes each time and the usual "Send Error Report to Microsoft" pops up.

Guess what? I returned the Drifta back to IC on Sunday. DSTV software dev sucks big time. They need to do proper quality assurance on their darn sw before exposing it to their customers.

Good riddance.

did u try running the app with admin rights? works on vista and windows 7 laptop my side

Yes, admin rights. Downloaded new sw version as well. Never had trouble with other applications - no errors messages, no programs crashing, etc. Ony DSTV Mobile app. So guess where the problem lies !
