DStv EasyView versus OpenView HD channels

the R29 per month for DStv EasyView is essentially absorbed for the first three years

DSTV just cannot help them selves every year they increase the price so it will be absorbed even sooner.

That's almost what SABC charges for their terrestrial channels. I feel DStv is giving value for money in this instance.

Easy View seems a lot better in priing & number of channels at our disposal unlike OpenView HD offering Etv in HD, kinda feels worthless for R1 599, ;)

"And the winner in this battle between DStv EasyView versus OpenView is...."

DRUMROLLLLLLLLL

"Neither!"

any info on which satellite they will be using? the main reason toptv is dead in the water it that a dish pointed to the dstv satellite cannot see the toptv satellite.
Found it, SES 5. Same problem as toptv then. A dish would have to be point 90 degrees to the left from a dstv setup. I'd need a second dish on the other side of my house.

It boils down to the question whether one is willing to pay R29 per month for Al Jazeera.

Why anyone would spend money on either "bouquet" is beyond me...

The answer has got nothing to do with how good the quality the channels are.

It is in many case (I feel) a case of need. So many places have really bad reception and the only way to watch any sort of decent TV is through satellite TV.

With that said, my vote goes for DStv.

My fingers have been burnt already by my TopTV experiment.

As much as we hate Multichoice - they are the best out there. This comparison shows it too.

R599 once of and then R29/mth is more managable for LSM 1-4s. R1599 once off on the other hand is a lot (it is 1/3 to 1/2 of the 1-4 LSMer's wages).

Agrees partially there.

It is not difficult to see that there is a huge market for ex-toptv customers. With stb's available from 3rd party suppliers,i can almost guarantee you, you'll be able to buy the stb alone, at a rough estimate of R600-R750.If they don't cripple the stb with firmware, which i think they won't,you can tune it in to the other fta channels, which imo is better than the openview crap.

Also:etv just uses low level videoguard encryption for geographical limits. There's an emulator out for dreambox/openbox...if you really want to crack it.
