Can DSTV employees know what channel a subscriber is watching?
Was just curious.

No, but they they have a box that they random gave to people who gave them feedback via gsm or internet.
If your explora / decoder is connected to wifi, they can.

Most companies these days pretty much tracks as many data points as they can. Who has access to that data depends on the company but in general your tracking data is shared far and wide.

Why u so worried? What is there in zDSTV you do? If anyone from DSTV is blackmailing you, you can report it at the right place and those people who accessed your records might loose their jobs.
Do their systems log user access to each account?

Depends on what platform you are talking about.

A satellite decoder can only receive signals it cannot send any data back to the satellite. If you use a explora connected to the internet and you have toggled the option to allow data collection on in system settings they will/may receive data from you regarding your viewing habits. If you are watching streamed data anything is possible.

Who cares if DSTV staff are able to or not able to view your viewing habits? It's not like DSTV has the Playboy channel or anything.
The had "emmanuel" on etv at 00:00 back in the day. Maybe they still play something similar.

Shouldn't one be over the age of 18 a grown arse adult to register on the forum?

Unless OP is trying to accuse someone of watching something, not the other way round, that's worse though.

Just basic channel viewing from their systems.
Eg if I’m watching channel 202, will it show up on their side?

Now you start to tell us, how are you watching dstv, decoder, streaming , and decoder connected to wifi?

Then dstv do not know what you are watching. They don't even know if you are watching any tv, as long as you pay them, they are happy.
They have to have some sort of information gathering as to which channels are most viewed and which have no viewership.
But that’s not my concern. I just need to know if general employees are able to see which smart card is watching what channel. It’s simple in theory. I just need to know how easily that information is available to employees.

Yip it’s easy to do. Found out you can pull reports on the smart cards.

Any dstv installer , if they have you id or smartcard number can see lots of your info.
But know what you are watching is only via wifi or stream, or if you play say idols or show game, they may suspect you are watching a channel, but I am sure they use average info to test the market, see what is popular etc. I know for a fact they don't get their info stats from here , as they know us.
