DStv Explora for R99 per month

They should adopt the Sky policy. My sister in the UK had her Skybox supplied and installed F.O.C after quering a problem with a sympathetic rep. as she had been a long time subscriber to their premium package. I related this to another friend who approached them and got the same deal.

Much changes, such innovation WOW

Recent competition really got DSTV up & innovating apparently.

Unfortunately one you experience the bliss of streaming going back to programmed content and repeats doesn't cut it anymore.

Why on earth would I want to pay any sum for a decoder that offers no REAL benefit over the previous HD decoders? Catch up with the time Multichoice. You can't rely on to the supersport brand to keep customers and unless you provide something on par with Netflix, you will loose customers.

Almost like Printers on Sale for R200, but the cartridges cost R800 per colour..

I believe anyone who can fork out R700 per month without complaining can easily afford a R2000 decoder cash..

Oh joy another MC article and another bunch of moaners that doesn't get it that DSTV offers convenience and ease of use as oppose to jumping through hoops and needing a unshaped internet connection. Not to mention all the millions of people that can't even get Telkom Internet.

Yup, a lot of normal people need these solutions.

Less than a million ADSL lines, and 5 million DSTV subscribers in ZA. DSTV subscriber rate increasing faster than ADSL subscriber rate.

I am by no means good with technology. I was left far behind in the techno ero lol. And I have Netflix setup at home (via Samsung Smart Decoder). All you really need is google. Way easier and cheaper.

To be fair, the PVR, BoxOffice and catchup services are pretty nifty - especially for new content. Of course streaming is better for binge series-watching of older content.

The real problem comes with pricing - it really is a rip off at the moment.

But you actually have a decent copper line that can deliver streaming media and have enough money to buy a good ADSL service; the majority of DSTV subscribers are on R300 or lower packages. Don't make the mistake that most people make, of assuming all DSTV subscribers are going for the R750 premium package and work out the numbers from there.

Lol true. Look I'd have uncapped ADSL whether I had DSTV or not. So I only add the Netflix subscription and the Unotelly subscription. Real bargain for me. I get to watch what I want, when I want. But understand your point :)

I had a cold call from DSTV a few weeks ago with the usual bull**** about me being a longtime customer etc and that they wanted to reward me with an Explora. I set thanks I'll take it. then came the script about R149/m with free installation (suddenly it's dropped R50). When i told her where to go she didn't seem to understand that it wasn't rocket science to self install and that I could buy it on the street at <= R2000.

You obviously can't afford an Explora hence your sour drapes. It is a great device. I love mine.

Affordability is not the issue, paying for an obsolete technology is. Grapes...
