DStv Explora: old vs new compared

Does it have built-in wifi?

It's far sleeker than the +HD box that it replaces, about half as tall and less plasticky, meaning it’ll fit in far more nicely alongside the PS4. There’s Wi-Fi built in and you get a 2TB hard drive inside to fill with recordings and downloads – that’s about 350 hours of HD.

im not even sure why i keep looking at the Sky Q box
But i mean, why cant DSTV not get somebody to design a better looking product? Are they all living in back in the 90's?

I miss my Tivo. That thing has been around long enough for people to test and see why it's well liked.
As for the explora... I LOL at all those useless jacks at the back. They could also make it play regular media files (provided your smartcard is inserted and active of course).

How much is Sky? Are all their channels available over the web if you pay for the service?

their premium package is around 42 pounds which comes in at about R700

You wont get it over the web even if you pay for it, i dont think due to Multichoice and some Geo Restrictions. Only way is via VPN's etc, and that be the illegal way. :D

A lot of those are +1 channels, things running an hour behind the main channel.

yeh.. But im still trying to think how Multichoice, with all the money they make, cannot provide the end user with a decent set of equipment. Its 2016, and you still cutting back on technology while over charging people

I swear, if they put a 5cm fan in this one like they did with the SD PVR ill be so pissed off.

Does anyone have a pic of the inside of the Explora I?

You mean the one which went noisy after enough dust collected on it and I had to break the anti-tamper seals to clean it and shut it up.

Such a fail

Explora I? Never heard of it.

Explora and Explora 2A? Heard of those.

Anyone with one that has had the guts to open the Explora? The Explora 2A is not on the shelves yet ....

Well if there is an Explora 2 out then the first one is an Explora (1) or I

Send me one. I will open it up for you, install a mini pcie WiFi card and send it back

Sounds like paying more for less... on paper at least.

wow it looks hideous.

Why is the new model worse than the old model? DSTV really think their consumers must be stupid. The only real upgrade I see is that the new one is smaller in size...

Yip. Yep. Yup. All of which and much points to the utter stupidity of everything which this new box of carp encompasses. Only the ultra gullible fall for this new rattle-trap as being worthy of shelling out blood money.

DSTV has got nothing on Sky with the amount of channels lol :D

Go on. Tell us. Is it an obsession, secret fetish or your ultimate life pursuit?

Me? I don't have an Explora, just not interested until my existing decoder/s pack up.
The Explora was actually a massive step up from the old ones. I got one in 2014 thanks to my old pvr packing in, and let's say I was surprised how much better it was.
