Hi all. I have a DSTV Explora device linked to a smart TV. I had to reformat the hard drive of the Explora and now, when using the variable setting on the DSTV remote to change the volume on the TV, it shows the volume, but when it changes the volume, the sound stops. When I mute via the DSTV remote, the sound comes on again, but the moment I try to change the volume, the sound stops (not mute, but just no sound). Could anyone assist in sorting this out?

Check your audio settings on the explorer. They each have descriptions, read and understand them.

Thanks for that. I have done that and tested various permutations but still does the same

I have the same problem and none of the sound settings seem to fix it. Sound up/down on the remote silences that sound. Can only be fixed by pressing 'mute' twice or switching channels

For some unknown reason it just came right and started working again - not sure why. It might have something to do with the reformat of the hard drive on the decoder I had to do and waiting 24 hours for some of the apps, etc, to reset .......

Hi all, did anyone figure out what the problem is with this? And how to fix?
It is annoying, soon as you change volume up/down, sounds goes off???

Any ideas?

Settings \ User Preferences \ Video & Audio - change Audio Output from "Fixed" to "Variable".

But note that surround sound won't work properly if it's not kept on Fixed.

Toss the decoder in the trash and get a Streaming service.

Problem solved!

Try increasing the volume of the tv to 100% and the same with the DStv control. But rebooting is a good suggestion

This is some sort of glitch in the firmware yet to be fixed... you can reboot until the cows come home, but after a reboot or any other event where the decoder comes back on from a power cut etc, it will have this issue for atleast an hour or so, then it just dissapears....

That glitch has been there since 2009 bra. Nobody knows how to fix it including the person responsible that works in my department now

I only have it on my explora ultra ddcoder, dont think that was out in 2009 "bra"...

I asked a engineer once, why they build this crappy decoders, he reply: "dstv wants it cheap, very cheap."

A7 is quite old now. And unfortunately it also hasn't got the deeper programing ability it was supposed to have had included once upon a time, so not much you can do about this kind of failure.

Can't recall if it has an auto-sequential-attempt mode for volume and off/on, don't think so, so only other thing you could try is some similar codes (same model / device type).

(If your device is too modern, A7 may not cover that IR system. But sounds like you found an actual (supposed) code for your particular model.)

When I program the A7, all the lights that are supposed to come on/blink do so in the correct sequence, but no success after.

For example: I set the A7 to learn, press V+, then press & hold V+ on the AVR's remote. The A7 flashes green twice, indicating (supposedly) that it has learnt the signal.

but when it comes out of programming mode, V+ still tries to increase the volume on the decoder and not the AVR.
