DStv Explora Wi-Fi streaming in the works

When they said it would get Wi-Fi this is the one thing I hoped for.

This is the only feature that would get me to upgrade to the Explora. It makes so much sense I still don't understand why it hasn't been done before. If I were DSTV I would have had this at the top of my wishlist 5 years ago. Maybe they did and the processors in the decoder are only now fast enough to handle decoding multiple streams at the same time.

most probably will be a feature in the next PVR knowing monochoice

MC are so hell-bent to protect their content that they end up making their solutions cripplingly complicated, aside from constantly delaying features that could have been available on the first SD PVR

^^^ That is my worry as well.

I also doubt it will be able to decrypt and stream a second channel than what is showing on the TV.

My guess is this WiFi feature will allow you to stream what is currently showing, and maybe what has been recorded... and it will all be done through some ridiculously buggy app.

Perhaps the irony is that with some very basic tinkering you could watch their "Premium" F1 broadcast (R665pm) using your XBox/PS3/Tablet/PC/Phone directly from their feed provider: the BBC. Not only that, there is no annoying SuperSport anchors yapping away between live feeds. Instead you see pit-walk abouts and interviews with the drivers. If you have the bandwidth and a supporting device, you could get it in 1080p DD5.1 as well..

Not interested in petty features like these. Why a dongle that connects to an Ethernet port first ?? :wtf: Why not let people use Ethernet cables directly. I shall not support this
