DStv Extra Stream price and limits explained

Ok pls explain in layman's eng.. If we have premium in CT(satellite dish) .. my son is in jhb.. So Ill pay the extra R199 so that he can watch on his tablet up there?
If you are only using Satellite at your home, your son can still stream in JHB on TV, mobile or whatever device. The change is for R199pm more you can add an additional stream but it is limited to mobile, tablet or PC.

So your wife can watch DSTV on satellite at home in CT, your son can watch in JHB on his TV app and you can be out and about in Durbs watching on your phone all at the same time. If you don't want the 3rd viewing option, you don't pay anything extra than what you are already paying.

On the streaming only package, you get 1 stream only and for a discounted price (R100) an extra stream, albeit limited to mobile.

This is how I understand it works.

But it seems to be a work in progress still as I have noticed on the apps and even the Ultra decoder there is mention of a Home Base which to me means they will either lock you to a home wifi location or maybe allow more streams at your home location, for a fee of course.

I thought the streaming limits went down so well .. hardly anyone apparently noticed when they reduced streams to 1 internet stream .. Now a few months later .. heres a more limited option to stream to that extra device if its a phone or tablet, at this special offer price ... all while the country is experiencing serious economic challenges..

No wonder people are clapping while it burns .. DSTV is utterly tonedeaf..

Has anyone noticed that DSTV Satellite HD streams quality have degraded?
Previously DSTV Satellite quality was comparable to DVD HD 720p/1080i in quality.
Recently DSTV HD has got more re-compression artifacts and a reduction in quality.

Its all about revenue and milking the customer :)

Can you not just use HDMI from laptop to TV to bypass the restriction?

However, the Extra Stream feature is mobile-only. It can only be used on smartphones, laptops, or tablets — not TVs.
So if it can work on a PC then why not on a media player? How does the feature know its on a laptop and not on a desktop?

Geez, it's 2023, why are people still using satellite dishes and decoders.
They're still connecting laptops to TVs, and you're wondering this. If they want their DSTV they'll do any archaic nonsense to get it...

and you still can't use a TV.
It's like they have . meetings to think up ideas to LOSE customers!

Tell me, is it possible to get DSTVNOW on its own? Without it being a benefit of having a premium Dish Subscription?

Yes, for the same price as the dish subscription with the added benefit of no pvr function.

Ag, you know, I give up on DStv. I only renewed my streaming-only subs so we can watch the rugby and I can't even cast to my ChromeCast. Keeps getting "Sorry, there was a problem playing the video". Works fine playing on a phone or PC. As soon as the rugby is over I'm cancelling again. Theirs is the ONLY service I have a problem with and you pay a fortune for it.

I've heard of a few free streaming services for F1 and Rugby but will try it out first before suggesting.

After last night I'm done.

Started watching the football on my chromebook, first tried the android app, but was just too buggy (green bar constantly showing up at the bottom, stuttering and buffering like crazy), then directly from the website, and still had the same buffering issues, pathetic streaming quality. At about 25 mins into the game I started streaming from another "source", and the stream was perfect in HD, with absolutely no issues.

I'll probably downgrade to DSTV access or something just to keep my account active, but there are much better ways to watch any sport you need without DSTV.
