How does this work? Centralised Dish setup, smart DStv over fibre? Do one need settings or just connect a coaxial cable?

Would OpenView work on this?

Do you need your own active fibre to use this or is this the complex setup where you just connect a cable?

The other box I think is the actual Fibre provider , think Zurico owns the infrastructure, something like that. But think Openserve is in the road.

So would OpenView work? Using the same satellite as DStv, IS20. Or would this whole setup block OpenView?

Hi.
From my experience in a complex, this DStv unit allows satellite over fibre to all who have the DStv unit installed. Without them needing an active fibre internet connection via an ISP.
And where I was staying, it allowed for DStv or Openview at separate times, depending which satellite decoder was connected.
It would also depend on the centralised LNB point which DStv services were available.
For internet connection, you would need to be paying an ISP. It may be good to confirm who the FNO is (Zurico or Openserve) as you would need to indicate this when getting quotes from different ISPs for an internet connection.

If the Microtik AP device already has active Wifi installed when you move in, then it may be included/free with you rental. Or you may need to pay extra to have it activated. In this case, there may be a closed agreement in place already for an ISP to provide the free internet connection.

The unit on the dish gets recalibrated for open view, it uses different frequencies/channels,so don't think it will work

Thanks. Will test OpenView shortly.

Will need to pay Zurico for fibre. Was a bit confusing at first. Zurico owns the telecommunications infrastructure etc within the complex. So no Openserve options it seems.

Currently have a Black Friday Vodacom LTE deal that we are just taking with. Hope OpenView works like you said. But yeah just pop in your DStv decoder with a subscription in place and it works, hoping the same for OpenView.

Thanks again.

You may want to contact one of the more popular ISPs, give them the complex name/address and ask them for a quote after checking they know Zurico is the FNO.
I'm pretty sure there is a ruling in place preventing a FNO from limiting residents to only using a single ISP, irrespective of who the FNO is.
I'm keen to hear if you are able to get Openview decoder working.

Pleased to report OpenView WORKS.

Really happy. Having alternative options for when streaming falters, is great.

OpenView keeps on improving as well.
