Hi,

I posted a somewhat critical reply to a DSTV forum post earlier this week. It seems (and I have read of similar experiences on this forum) the DSTV forum admins are censoring posts - trying to keep out those that get a bit close for comfort (close to the truth). Aparently you can critisize content as long as you do not critisize DSTV's wonderfull and faultless hardware and PVR software.

My post this past Monday morning (4 days ago) has still not been submitted. I simply commented on the bad quality of their PVR software without being rude. Anyone else here had the same experience?

I tried to reply again tonight, but was met with a "your post need to be approved" screen and then a "you can not post in this forum screen" ?!.

What a pity we do not have a real competitor to DSTV. What a bunch of "great people"!

Thanks,
Johan.

Welcome :) This forum will allow you to speak your mind freely and is read by WAY more people than their forum, so...

...One and all bring your dstv discussion here :)

Post it here and I'll repost it on the forum no problem.

I see there is a whole thread of pure kiss-ass there. Must be the last few forum members who haven't been moderated yet :D

It is surely pointless posting to complain on how bad their PVR s/w is - it's not constructive or useful to them? It's not like they're going to pm you & ask that you come up with better alternatives... I think it's only fair that they mod you.

Their customers only complain because they are not proactive. They have never released an official bugs list. They do not advise of estimated time frames for bug fixes. It is impossible to tell whether the bug you report is on their "confidential" list or not. They have promised an SD-PVR upgrade for two or three years (maybe longer). They don't answer customers who ask about it BUT they don't say SD-PVR upgrades have been shelved either. When customers ask questions they are often curt with replies. Often they completely misunderstand the questions put to them. They claim to have corporate structures in place which absolve them of any responsibility for channel content including local channel content. The HD-PVR works most of the time if you simply watch something. But in reality if you try watch buffer content it will often just quit on you. If you use trick mode heavily it will usually stutter or partially crash. These are not installation issues. Many of the complaints have been on-going for years and are still not addressed eg. the EPG. Net result? Customers are frustrated and have no outlet as criticism is moderated. This post would be moderated on their forum.

oh look, their fanboi club extends to here as well ......

Complaining about something that they charge a fortune for and make money off of is not grounds for someone being moderated .... that's censorship.

It is odd. They claim not to remove posts as well.

Seems even the fanbois are rising up in revolt, read whole thread:

:D

Well, mine needs to be replaced.:( ****ing trip to ****ing traffic hell (rand-****ing-burg). ****ing losing every ****ing thing recorded to date. No easy way to ****ing transfer recordings to a new decoder or a PC. ****ing criminally abusive ****ing Monochoice.

****, I can't wait for the consumer protection act to become effective. Serial ****ing consumer abusers like Monochoice better get a big ****ing tub of lube.;) Watching them suffer is going to be such sweet payback.:D

Seems so. Did not quite understand the logic about his reply. Porpably works for MC.

Did you take it in yet?

No, I don't want to take it in now. I'm hoping that the T&Cs of the recall improve. Right now, they're offering a referbed unit, but okes on their forum are asking for new units. Maybe they'll give in if the media makes an issue of this. Also, Randburg might as well be called hell, this swap out will write off an entire morning and I don't have that sort of time to waste.

Well I think I have now given up of DStv forum ... sent a PM to Rory asking him why I was on moderation and to remove me .... that was over a week ago. Will just stick to MYBB now!

Good stuff! Why bother with that forum? More and more censored members are coming over to myBB.

Seems word is getting out. Maybe someone is PM'ing the disgruntled members to move here?

Are you kidding me? That's like saying "it's pointless to complain about how crap Microsoft's Software is" . huh? How is it not constructive or useful? How else will they know? If the software is buggy and you list the bugs and "complain" that it has not been fixed in years , don't you think it's useful?

At least Microsoft have a Bug Report function where you don't NEED to complain about it. I assume DSTV does not have any kind of "bug report" function for their hardware/software and your only resort is to "report" in the form of a public complaint.
