I just got back from a weeks holiday to find by HD PVR in a boot loop. None of my 1st aid helped and a 45min call to DSTV did nothing to improve it's state or my mood in any way. Since it was only 2 1/2 months old I took it back to the retailer who informed me that after 2 months it must be 'repaired' by the DSTV agent, RF Technologies in my case.

I went to RF Technologies where I stood in a queue for over an hour and they fiddled with the decoder for another 30min, only to inform me it was in fact broken.

Now here comes the good part...

It is in the 1 year guarantee period, but the have to send it away, I WILL NOT GET IT BACK, after 4 working days I can come and get a new one. All of the programs recorded are lost, they will not swap the hard drive.

Whey the hell do they send it away for 4 days to be repaired and then give me another one, is that not the most insane thing you have ever heard?

What kind of company guarantees a high tech piece of equipment for 2 months?

I am getting a distinct Telkom monopoly feeling here, it's not like we can say bugger you, we'll go to the other satellite tv company.

I am extremely disappointed in what I always thought was a very good company.

LOL... Multichoice and Telkom are two of the same stripe.
Surely you knew that if you have been around here for so long.

Thankfully I have a Multichoice office in my area...

and they tried a similar thing with me until I threw my toys out the cot in the middle of the Customer Service area... got a new decoder there and then...

Watch those long calls to DSTV. I hope you didn't ring the premium rate line?

In all probability, the hardware is fine. DSTV have really crap firmware on their boxes which can give us a headache. The error messages are highly misleading. If I believed what gumpf came out of it, I would have assumed 1. The hardware was faulty, 2. The card was faulty 3. The account had not been paid 4. We were not subscribed to a particular channel etc, when all it needed was a scan and a quick on off to be right as rain.

I think getting a reconditioned box (which is what they will give you) is not the wisest move until it's very obviously not salvageable.

I send them a email as part of my therapy, will post the reply here if they feel like communicating, although I'm not spamming my send/receive button

Most places only have 14 day replacement guarantees, don't they?

After that it's off for reparis. Jsut had to wait 3 weeks for my Sony LCD TV to be fixed by Makro.
