DSTV have increased their prices again. I've got two decoders with DSTV premium, and its costing R737 per month now.

That's crazy. It's no wonder people rather use that cash to get a decent uncapped line. At this rate I'm gonna say cheers DSTV. They are mad. There are already so many adverts, why does it increase so much every year?

So what's the point. Most very wealthy people I know of have discovered the joys of Netflix and Hulu.
As soon as one can stream sport, that will be the end of MonoChoice and they deserve their death.

If you have a good enough exchange to be able to run a stable 2mb/s line then I do not see a need for DSTV. Sports you can go watch at a pub. Increasing the chance to meet more people and socialize more. I've never had a DSTV subscription and will never get one. I'm sick of monopolies and unfortunately I still need support one of them. Hellkom. Sigh.

PS...The above is my personal opinion. Before I get hacked to pieces.

Apart from DSTV, what else is there?

SABC is more than useless. Last time my wife watched the Afrikaans soapy on SABC 2 was about 5-6 years ago. (Can't remember the name)
E-tv is so full of adverts it is useless trying to watch a movie, or anything else for that matter.
According to friends, TopTV repeats even more often that DSTV.

Kids like the movie channels, and PVR a lot of movies.
I like the documentaries, like Nat Geo, Discovery HD, and a few others.
Wife likes the cooking channel, Masterchef and some others.

They will probably continue bleeding us dry, as they know they have the monopoly, and until something decent comes along, they have us by the short and curlies.

Netflix has pretty much all you ask for (since i see no sports)- if you never had internet access it will cost you the same (or more) but if you have internet access currently then you save, +/ R150 per month excluding internet costs. you can drop to one of the lower DSTV packages so you still get some of the channels you mentioned
My daughter was going to throw a tantrum over me dropping the DSTV package till she saw netflix - she has not watched DSTV for 2 months now :wtf:
I have the WD so i get BBCiplayer as well , and if you really want to you can download all series you watch as well.
TBH DSTV still makes a killing since they own the rights to majority of the sports which they milk subscribers for all they can. Im sure a majority of premium subscribers have it just for that, they hardly watch all the other stuff.

All of that is on Netflix.

I end up downloading stuff for mine because often MonoChoice wasn't showing movie x when they wanted to see it.

Uhm.... saw that online :)
No I mean that some try to counter the variety of services like Netflix/Hulu offers by asking whether a specific variant of a show is on there. Mostly from KykNet.

Well if you are looking for the horror that is Kykslet... I mean Kyknet, best you keep your DSTV subscription.

My TopTV/StarSat subscription dropped from R269 to R199 per month so I'm quite happy.
Yes, the content isn't as good as MonoChoice but it has enough channels for the family and I to enjoy seeing as we're not sport fanatics.
Channels I enjoy: Nat Geo Gold, Discovery Science, Fox, Fox Crime, C Music TV.
I would never pay over R500 for TV channels regardless of the content.

I just lost it with Monochoice.......

After 24yrs its time to say FFFFFFFFFFFF OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ....................:D

After spending 43 mins (Forty Three mins on HOLD), just to ask for a quote to replace my 2 x HD PVR's - lighting struck :)

Not rocket science - its gonna cost me/you R 425/650 per PVR to replace because of no insurance - just email me the quote - Eish sorry sir we see you have dual view, confirm iD no. adress, please spell your surname ........

Thank you Monochoice for ripping me off for the past 24 yrs..........

The buck stops HERE, NOW !

Goodbye Monochoice

We cancelled a month or so ago when the increase was released. Got 2mbps uncapped internet and netflix. :p

Cancelled 2 months ago. Netflix entertains the kids and wife. I get my sport fix on Xbmc mashup for free. Add channels on Youtube (extreme makeover, food channel etc) and its a full house

No. My DSTV has not increased... I'm still paying R0.
