DStv HD plans

MultiChoice has recently announced the launch of a fourth HD channel, and gives more details about further HD channels.
 
Instead of 1 HD channel at the quality of four SD why not double the SD resolution. Much more efficient I think. DSTV SD looks so bad that I thnk would be the best comprimise. Call it HD lite or something. Even TopTV's SD is better than DSTV.

I don't know about that, my SD looks way better ever since I switched my connections to HDMI.
 
Remove four religious channels for one HD movie channel - thats a start.
 
Couldn't they have forseen this problem with capacity? End 2012 for more satellite capacity - that means we have to wait a full 2 years+ still :(
 
Sounds like justification for high subscription prices to me. Why don't they start working on acquiring new content, period. More new content would be far more appreciated than the same old content available in different qualities IMO.

I'm just getting tired of you guys bashing religion in just about every thread that gets started on here...

and btw, just because YOU don't like the religion channels, I'm sure there is a market for it.

I don't like the music channels, so why not take them away, I have no need for kids channels, why not take them away...

Believe it or not, DSTV caters to wide range of audience, not just "lets show everything xrapidx" likes....

But those channels are terrible, surly you can agree on that?
 
Imagine how many subscribers TT could get before 2 half of 2012 if they started launching HD channels ... though I'm not up to speed with whether or not they have bandwidth problems if HD were to be introduced??

Yes, even as a christian, those channels are terrible to me, but I'm sure there are plenty of people that enjoy them, so why take it away from them? because you are an atheist, and don't like religion?

makes no sense (unless you are a selfish prick.. then wanting them to remove the religious channels makes sense)

It seems thats always the best argument you get on this forum "How mature", really shows the intellectual capabilities.... I still don't get the "your little religion bashing group" - What group - I don't belong to any group - or participate in the religious discussions.

Great - so we cater just for Christians - I can see how thats fair to all other religions who subscribe to DSTV.

Or you could be a brain dead idiot who believes all DSTV subscribers are christain and watch that crap.
 
2012? geez.......mediocre programming, waaaaaay too many repeats and NO option to choose what I channels want watch/ay for.
but at least I can watch F1 and tour de france, rugby etc.

But while they're at it, maybe they can get rid of some of the sports channels :D As it is the extra HD channel is going to be yet another sports channel.

And what's up with the excuse for an HD movie channel? I'm pretty sure every movie for the past decade (and then some) is available in HD!
 
time to kill off some useless SD channels from the line-up. Magic world and a few others that nobody watches.

Not so, it just that... Those channels are terrible, but thanks for the comment, it really helps your case.

I agree with regards to the HD content for movies. I don't buy their excuse.

Renting a SD DVD still looks way better than MM1/MM2. An HD movie channel would be awesome.

And yes, if Top TV acts fast, they can capture a bigger chunk of the market.
