Updated software now available for HD PVR (5 May) http://forum.dstv.com/showthread.php?t=6689

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Firstly, our thanks for your patience and your ongoing feedback on the forums.

Updated software for the HD PVR has been released today. This new software introduces two brand new features – DStv ON DEMAND as well as Series Recordings. It also includes :

• the addition of more interactive services (this does not yet include DMX DJ)
• additions to the Aspect Ratio options. We have also made changes on the Aspect Ratio set-up screens to make the options easier to understand. (Press MENU, select Personalise, press WHITE to edit options.)
• addition of a mail messaging feature. If you ever notice an envelope onscreen, press MENU and select Mail Messages.
• additional HDMI improvements
• a new setting to assist with viewer management of the hard disk space (Press MENU, select Personalise, go to option 7). The default setting is KEEP, the other option is IF SPACE REQUIRED. If the setting for a recording is KEEP, the PVR will cancel scheduled recordings that cannot be accommodated due to space constraints. If the setting for a recording is IF SPACE REQUIRED, the PVR will delete that programme when space is required for new recordings.
• Portuguese language support (Decoder Menu). This addition is for the Portuguese territories in Africa.
• general software enhancements.

This software has been *pushed* to all HD PVRs. A quick check to see if you have the latest software – press TV GUIDE and check the last menu item. If the menu item is DStv OnDemand, congratulations – your HD PVR has successfully upgraded. If the menu item is Playlist, your HD PVR has not received the new software. To download the latest software, please follow the steps below :

• Reboot the decoder. Wait for full video & audio to resume.
• Press MENU to go to the Decoder Menu
• Select "Advanced Options"
• Enter 9949
• Select "DSD Upgrade"
• Wait for the RED button to appear, then press RED and follow the onscreen instructions.
• Warning! Do not interrupt the download process (which could take up to 40 minutes) and wait for full video & audio to resume.

Note
If the RED button does not appear , it may be that your decoder has automatically downloaded this software or that your installation is of insufficient quality to do a download. If you are still unable to download the software after trying the options below, please send your contact details, installation setup and smartcard number to [email protected]

Option 1 : factory reset
• Press MENU to go to the Decoder Menu
• Select "Information Central"
• Select "Information Central"
• Press i
• Press 7 (to reset all Factory Settings)
• Wait for completion of process (you will end up on the Network Set-up screen)
• Press BLUE to scan this network
• Wait for scan to complete.
• Try download process again. If that still doesn’t work, try option 2 (as a last resort)

Option 2 : front panel forced upgrade
• Reset decoder
• Wait for "DL" to be displayed
• Press "Standby"
• Press "Up Arrow"
• Press "Down Arrow"
• Press "Standby"
• Software download should start, do not interrupt and wait for audio and video to resume.

More info on DStv ON DEMAND

DStv On DEMAND offers you the opportunity to catch up on a selection of your favourite series & sporting highlights for up to 7 days after their first broadcast on DStv.
This feature is only available to DStv Premium subscribers.

• To access DStv ON DEMAND, press TV GUIDE and select the 3rd menu option.
• The programmes download over time, so don’t be alarmed if only a few titles are listed when you first visit DStv ON DEMAND. The programmes download in the background, even when normal recordings are taking place as well as when the decoder is in standby.
• Although every effort is made to ensure HD content (insert) as part of the DStv ON DEMAND offering, certain programmes (example : Carte Blanche) as well as some sporting events, are not broadcast in HD and those programmes will be in Standard Definition.
• DStv ON DEMAND is also available online, with more than 300 hours of your favourite TV series, movies and sports from DSTV’s lineup available 24/7 and updated daily. For full information, visit the new website.

When you see this icon next to a programme, it indicates that series recording is available. To set a series recording, press REC and then select to Record all episodes in this series. Future episodes of this series (limited to the current season and the channel on which you set the series recording) will automatically be recorded.

Some important notes :
• You can set a maximum of 20 series recordings.
• Once you have set a series recording, this icon will appear next to all future broadcasts of the programme for which you set the series recording. It does not indicate that the programme will be recorded, but rather that this programme is part of a series recording.
• Series recordings are only scheduled 24 hours in advance.
Example : Today is Wednesday. You set a series recording for GREY’S ANATOMY on M-Net next week Monday. The scheduled recording (indicated by and listed in the Scheduled Recordings screen) will only appear 24 hours before the programme is scheduled to record.
• For those of you that know the term – this version of series does not yet include event tracking. We recommend that you set the net default to 5 mins before and 10 mins after each recording. To set the default : press MENU, select Personalise, highlight Safety Net Settings, press WHITE to edit and follow the onscreen instructions.
• If you see this icon displayed in the top right corner while watching TV, it indicates conflict between scheduled recordings. To resolve the conflict, go to the Scheduled Recording screen. The items in conflict will be marked with the same icon.

I’m sure you will have many comments and want to discuss the changes with other customers. In order for us to be able to track comments over the next week or two, please can I ask that you post ALL comments & queries in one single thread (link to be added). The HD PVR Viewer’s Guides (for both Pace and UEC) with updates will be posted later this week.

Kind regards
The MultiChoice HD PVR team

What I find odd is that they were raving about some new services that would only benefit "Premium Subscribers".
These updates don't benefit anybody other than those with a PVR. What about the rest of their "Premium Subscribers"?

The online Demand stuff is for all premium subscribers.

Like me.... I have dual view so I should be able to get it. I have a premium account.

Not to sure how I feel about these "two brand new features - DStv ON DEMAND as well as Series Recordings"
with only minor reference to "general software enhancements"

I DONT NEED DSTV ON DEMAND OR SERIES RECORDINGS FFS...I need my HD PVR decoder to respond when I press a button or to show me more detail when I press info on a program (and not default back to what I'm wathcing), to smoothly rewind, pause and forward; to not drop all the 2 hr buffer content when I press the yellow button...basic stuff

PVR by its very nature already provided me with "ON DEMAND" or "SERIES RECORDINGS".

This so called improvement was some smart ass', unilateral wet dream of what DSTV customers want...next time you do an update ask us first FFS

Well, its only (checks watch...) a year and 5 months late.

wouldn't it be nice if we could all sell computers/appliances that only do what we promise they'll do 17 months later...

Were these features advertised/promised at launch?

I don't think the bugs on the HD PVRs will ever get sorted out - especially the slow response on the Pace decoder... I think it is a hardware issue (too slow processor?), or the way the hardware is being used.

ok...listen, what should it be ....the UEC decoder or the Pace...I'm buying month end...
