DStv holding a free content weekend

R700 per month for repeats and stupid ads and the occasional rugby game

R130 per month for a DNS and a subscription to Netflix...

It's reasons like this I seriously wonder why people pay so much for such junk.

And if sports is your reason, go to the closest pub. It provides extra atmosphere.

I am doing it already with my Roku and Apple TV. I am subscribed to Netflix and Hulu Plus. There is a load to watch on demand. I have DSTV Easyview (R29 a month) because I pay a TV license and need some value from it.

I will be interested in this offering, especially the documentaries. You can drop the sports. I will pay you R99 if these channels get added onto Easyview. Is that a deal?

Can someone do this set-up on a 1 or 2Mbps uncapped account? If there's already a thread please someone link.

If I was DSTV I would imagine I would want to open up all the sport channels and mnet/movie channels to lure subscribers... don't really understand why the partial opening of their selected channels..

+1
If you already have uncapped ADSL!
Ad Free, Cheap, New content when you want it, not on some archaic expensive, technical, messy cable buggy system.
I am watching cricket live at the moment online as well for free, I get BBC iPlayer and am watching the golf at the same time. Kids watch movies on iPad.

I'm on DSTV Easyview - do we get to partake in the "free content weekend" or is it only for Compact and / or Extra subscribers?

EDIT: No luck for me
All DStv Access, Family, Compact and Extra customers will have access to selected DStv Premium channels (see table below) for viewing. The channels will be opened for active DStv customers in those packages to view from Friday, 19 July at 4pm until Monday, 22 July at 6am.

Not all of us like listening to other peoples drunken chat/banter/rubbish. Atmosphere my arse.
Plus I can pause the thing at any time (when I need a refill or when I have to visit the facilities).

They could have at least unblock one of the HD channels. I want to see if its any good.

I must say, ever since going HD, I can't watch soccer in SD anymore. The players no longer look like oompa loompas due to the stretched content.

Or you can just set your tv / decoder to the correct aspect ratio

Yip. I much prefer watching 4:3 content in pillarbox over stretched. Those little fat men just don't work for me.

I got so used to the little fat men over the past few years that watching regular sized men now looks weird to me, but i'm adapting :D

Agreed.
My ex called it squish-o-vision. Now whenever I see someone's TV stretching 4:3 to 16:9 I'm reminded of her.

it's been almost 4years of being dstv free
