DStv testing Home Base system to fight password sharing

MultiChoice has started testing a new feature that will presumably allow DStv subscribers to use its streaming services on multiple devices simultaneously within the same household.

The pay-TV broadcaster's controversial decision to restrict concurrent DStv streams to one in March 2022 was met with fierce backlash from subscribers.

What they haven't learnt, is that people who don't pay now, are probably not going to pay anyway.
It's not gonna make any difference on their annual turnover, except for now having to blow millions on R&D.

MultiChoice South Africa CEO Nyiko Shiburi called the mechanism “Proximity Control” and explained it would rely on DStv devices — like a decoder — to determine the user’s home location.

So let me get this right... In order to have a "Home Base" setup one would have to buy a DStv device. For satellite it would obviously be the decoder but the stream only option would require you to buy the Streama rubbish.

No thank you... I'd much rather get my sport fix by sitting at a pub getting white-boy-wasted.

Actually seems like a positive step to me. Allow more devices to stream as long as they are in proximity to home to which the account is registered.
As long as they don't remove that single extra stream. That will kill my (half of a) subscription.

I'm sure some of this is busy work and theatre so they can stay on the good side of their suppliers, the movie/TV studios. Especially since the environment is becoming more competitive.

Agreed. This is a better balance than just locking to one stream. I do have a feeling that they will kill the extra stream once this gets going though

If my current main decoder is not connected to internet or wifi, how do I fix the home base device not in range issue?
