Hi there

Ok, so here is my problem that suddenly occurred today...

I live in Waterstone East in Century City. This is a villa so there is a communal dish. I've had my HD PVR now for nearly a year and used a splitter to split the signal into two separate cables so that they can go into the back of the decoder. This is allowed by the building and the installation guy who did the installation of Waterstone actually said this is what he was going to do and so instead of calling him out and giving him R500 for everything (or whatever it was going to cost), I spent R100 and did it myself. Now as I said, everything has working perfectly up until today. So thats just over 10 months with no issues.

Tonight, suddenly, Supersport HD 2 gave me 'signal not found' message and so I called Multichoice. They did their thing, nothing worked. Went to the Multichoice centre at N1 City to have the box checked out and they did a software upgrade, everything worked at their premises so I came home just after 7 pm and plugged it in and still had the same problem. Checked my 'signal status' under information central and noticed that when I'm on a channel e.g. Supersport HD 1 that uses vertical polarization, signal quality and signal strength for the tuner 1 or tuner 2 will be 98% and 100% respectively.

The minute I go to SS HD2 which requires horizontal polarization, signal strength and quality both drop to 0%.

What could be the cause of this issue?
I called the installation guy but he was rather rude and told me to call tomorrow.

Thanks for any feedback.

Programming was done for 2 shifted channels (E! and Style), that would have been missing for the last 3 weeks. You have to rescan the decoder. Do you have the network settings?

I have the settings and have made sure they are correct, did a rescan obviously since my software was upgraded. I had to re input the settings and scan networks again.

I actually noticed those two channels were missing about 3 weeks ago but didn't think twice of it since I never watch those two channels. I only watch sport and since HD 2 is a channel I watch, it has now become an issue.

What else do you recommend? As of now, style is still gone for me but E! has returned.

Which HD decoder?

Hold TV/Audio button for 10 seconds, then release and press UHF, followed by the Play/Pause button. You should get a green screen, asking for pin code. Enter 1649. Do factory reset.

Enter your frequencies again, but add a 6th additional network.

So, additional network frequencies are:

11210
11250
11290
11330
11370
11410

Remember 30000 symbol rate and SMATV.

Scan all networks... Let me know if this sorts it, if not I will call Craig in the morning.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that the buttons you press for the factory reset, is on the front panel of the decoder. When you get to the PIN, switch to remote.

Did all the above and didn't work. I realized the buttons were on the decoder and the pin in input via the remote. lol

Do you know Craig? He was the guy I called. The connection was a little wobbly at one point and he mentioned about his head not being completely in it or something like that. I have no idea.

Thanks. I'm not sure what the problem could be but it would appear its a problem with the installation since my decoder works fine at multichoice.

It appears to be unable to lock onto the horizontal signal.

Well I appreciate your help. Please inform him of the above discussion and I will also call him tomorrow during the course of the day. Thanks

There are lots of other horizontal channels, its just one or two "networks" its not picking up for some reason. Your system basically converts horizontal signals to vertical so that you can use it with one cable.

Nope, QT is definitely your go to man for this. Maybe a hardware issue with the converter?
Can you check with neighbours & see if they have the same issue?

I'll have to log an issue with the body corporate tomorrow morning and they will let me know if its 'villa wide'. Hopefully it is otherwise that sucks for me.

Some reprogramming was done at the head-end equipment, by Craig and my colleague yesterday. Was everything working last night?

Can't say where the problem is... Will have to look into it tomorrow. If you don't mind, PM me your surname and unit no.

Yip. All was working yesterday as I know I watched something on HD2 and HD1. All I watch is sport so all channels were working up until today. I'll PM you my details.

Hi,

I had exactly the same problem on channel 174 on both my 2 Channel HDPVR and my 4 Channel HDPVR. I thought that there was a problem with the SATCr LNB or its orientation but what I found was that the satelite dish itself had moved slightly with the prevailing winds. Slight adjustment and the signal was back. The strange thing was that the problem was only on channel 174.

Hope this helps you, cause cricket is so much better on HD.

I stay in a complex. The dish wasn't the problem. The technicians made a slight error when adjusting the equipment. They fixed it the very next day and all is working.
