Guys, if I were to have DSTV installed today/tomorrow. Will I first need pay to have my account activated, or will MultiChoice send me an invoice? What I'm trying to find out is whether payment needs to be made in advance or arrears

They will activate and bill you a pro-rata rate for this month, as well as fully for next month, at the end of this month. So, you do pay in advance, but they will activate you without the first payment.

Cool thanks! I'm just gatvol of TopTV.

I found out if I have to go to the pub to watch my weekly dose of sports nowadays I might as well get DSTV installed.

Beer + food + smokes = DSTV subscription anyway!:D

OK, something else I've thought of

Asked the guy to install a dual lnb until I can afford to buy an HD-PVR at the end of next month. I've got a question though. Would a dual LNB by sufficient to have 3 separate viewing areas?

I'm getting an SD-PVR from my father-in-law because I know it needs to be combined with the HD-PVR to enable me to have 3 separate viewing areas.

Thanks

Yes, but you'll have to get a 2x4 multiswitch. This is to split and switch the 2 feeds to 4 inputs.

I've never been billed pro-rata by MC. When mine was installed they just bill month-to-month from the day it was activated i.e. I have to pay my account on the 5th of every month (was activated 05/02). So I phoned to activate after the install was done and then had to pay. Obviously if I didn't pay I would've gotten cut off. If you setup a debit order (bad idea IMO) then they'll probably take it off a day or two after activation.

DSTV payment as you go

Hi there, am looking to install a dstv connection. wanted to know if there is any scheme by which I can pay as i go instead of an annual subscription??.....for eg if I travel for 3 months i don't want to be charged for that. In Zambia you can buy dstv for a month and it doesn't charge you when the subscription expires after a month nor do you need to call them....you just need to buy another month subscription as and when you want. Please advice?

That was not my experience. Once I had it installed, I had to make a payment, and e-mail POP before they activated it.

That's hope it works, but you pay at the beginning of the month for that month. If you don't pay the next month, no signal. Pay again and it's on.

I know some people who pay one month, record everything they want to watch and then turn it off for the next month.

The only issue is if DStv charge a reconnection fee every time? As far as I know, service will be suspended if you don't pay, attracting the reconnection fee.

You can phone and turn it off and on again.

The account holder is responsible for paying the account and the reconnection fee if services have been disconnected due to non-payment or late payment.

Yes, but you'll get to watch DSTV for mahala for 15 days after you've missed a payment.
