The PVR recordings are encrypted with digital rights management. You can remove the hard drive all you want, you won't be able to play or use the files that contain the recorded content.

I doubt most of those township viewers are watching the premium subscription. The cheapest DSTV subscription is R29 per month. The main issue is the cost of the premium subscription which is currently close to R700 per month, plus an extra charge for HD and an extra charge for the privilege of using the PVR functionality.

Where do you see an extra charge for HD ?
