As of Aug 2014 I had tried every single wireless system available in SA (for HDMI). They all work fine in the same room or through a thin wall. Not a single one reached my stoep through 3 double brick walls.

Best one we've had, worked through 2 thick walls and across a courtyard with swimming pool. Supplied it for testing. Expected it back the next day. Haven't heard from them in 2+ years. I can still get them, but we don't keep stock. Let me know if you are still looking.

No. It does not use IP protocol.
