Hi everyone

I have one of the new dstv single view decoders (1110?). The house we moved into has a dish already installed, and a dual LNB. Can I use a dual LNB with a single view decoder?

Should not be a problem afaik

The dual LNB would have 2 wires from the LNB to the house, just use one of them and leave the other one :p

I tried it, and I didn't get any signal, which makes me think the LNB might be stuffed. It hasn't been used in about 2 years.

...mmm...

Don't you still have your LNB from your Dish ? Maybe just replace it with your old one.

I honestly have no clue :o Just trying to help.

I don't have an old dish, I just subscribed to DSTV now :( The cable between the LNB and decoder is a single piece of cable, no splices and it seems to be ok if I test it (with a battery and globe :D ). The decoder is brand new, which leaves the LNB. Garr! This was supposed to be plug and play.

LNB = R 600 brand new :(

Would be a waste if it is not the LNB. Try and test your neigbours LNB on your Dish just to be 100% sure that is the problem ;)

I wouldn't mind if you where my neighbour just as long as you take it out and replace it when done :p

Well, if it has not been used for 2 years other things could have happened:
- The dual LNB is not sitting @ 30 degree's to the ground anymore.
- The dish has moved or changed angle.
- The cables have been damaged.
- There is sufficient build up of dirt on the surface of the LNB to obscure the signal.
- Ants now live inside the dual LNB.

Have a look at other sattelite dishes in the area, and make dead sure yours is angled exactly the same, pay close attention to the angle of the LNB on the arm.

Test the cable's for continuity, using a battery and a bulb or something better. (I see you did that :D)

Clean the front plastic of the existing LNB.

Take the existing LNB with you when you go to buy a new one and ask them to test it. A single view LNB will set you back like R480, so, don't just go and buy one for no reason.

Well, I b0rked it now. I removed the LNB and dropped it. The plastic casing broke. Nice.

Ellies single view lnb - R 180. Not too bad. Dual is 446. From the Ellies store in Jhb.

I hope the ellies LNB is ok (quality wise).
