DStv Mobile gets two new channels

So in other words, if you're in an area with coverage and you spend R600 for a decoder, you can get access to a few free channels that aren't available on the cheapest four bouquets for dish users, and you can now, for R36, gain access to a channel that forms one of the only reasons many people are even interested in DSTV, namely Discovery Channel.

Yet, you cannot get a signal for this in the majority of the country and they do not offer this R36 package for dish users as an addon for the two least expensive bouquets.

DStv are beginning to seem a lot like Telkom tbh.

Yes, it doesn't make sense. Discovery, SS 1 and 2 are premium channels which peopl pay close to R600 to have. Now they offer these channels for R36 per month or R9 per week if you have one of the dvb-h Nokia's like the N96.

can u sign up if you don't have your DStv On? (DStv off got TopTV)

Yes, DSTV mobile is separate from their normal packages. The only exception is that if you have Premium then you have 'free' access to the full mobile package by default.

Dont think you get the extra 2 channels unless you have the full bouquet.

Resolution of Drifta is terrible! In makro a football game was on, and at double size, I couldn't read the score! Only reason I'd use is if I had a DVB-H enabled phone for odd use. But 600 for a device with that resolution. Not happening.

I don't think some people care about watching a game where you can't see the score or the players..

@Spoontech the resolution is not meant for tv's.

I am quite interested in the Walka they'll be bringing out.

Sounds to good to be true and im sure it is.
The current Drifta channels loop 2 hours of content on the channels per day.
I would like to know if its going to be any different this time around with Mnet and Discovery.

Any info on the Mnet mobile channel content? Will it be the same as Mnet/MnetHD?

From the DSTVMobile site:
(*The channel replicates the satellite channel except where licencing has not been granted. This currently pertains to movies and in such instances substitute programming will be scheduled.)

My drifta is gathering dust. I simply do not have the patience to spend an hour fiddling on their stupid useless Android app to get it to connect. Epic fail. :erm:

Their problem is that they have neglected the majority of potential viewers. I bought a Drifta in December 2010, hoping that one day they might roll out their transmissions to new areas. Nope, you need to be in one of the major 4 or 5 cities to get it. My Drifta is gathering dust

A bit more from the DSTVMobile site:
The M-Net Mobile channel replicates the satellite channel except where licencing does not allow, which currently pertains to movies. In such cases substitute programming will be scheduled. The M-Net Mobile channel is available from 14:00 and concludes between 22:30 and 23:00 daily. Discovery is a replica of the popular direct-to-home channel.

Add Discovery with DSTV Compact as well please, i'll even pay that R36 extra if it comes with Compact.

This is a great offering from DSTV. At last they realised that not everyone watches sport alone. My experience is that the Drifta works really well on the iOS of Apple, especially the iPad with the bigger screen. (Tv's and PC's not recommended). The resolution is fine. I have no problem to see the scores or anything else for that matter. At R36 per month or free for premium users, it is a steal. I have never been a big fan of Multichoice (billing issues, poor service, monopoly mentality) but this time they are getting it right and they deserve credit. Dare I ask for even more documentary channels?
