DSTV no longer working with IPv6 enabled on local LAN

Good day,

Not sure if this is the correct forum to post this on. However I have been running IPv4 and IPv6 on my home network for some time and have had no issues with DSTV up until yesterday.

As of yesterday DSTV is no longer working when runningIPv4 and IPv6 dual stack. When disabling IPv6 on the local network, DSTV starts working.

Currently now.dstv.com resolves to 2600:9000:20ad:7800:1b:3aff:e1c0:93a1, however dstv.stream and now.dstv.co.za only resolved IPv4.

I have tested from Firefox, Chrome,etc and from an apple TV and encounter the same issue where DSTV is unable play streams.

Errors include:
Browser - PER undefined
Apple Tv - SEC 451

Not sure if anyone else is experiencing similar issues?

Why use IPv6 on a home internal network anyway?
 
no point what so ever.Most likely they like tinkering around ...
As pointed out above, yes there is.
You don't have the IP behind NAT so it is internet addressable.
It isn't per-se something that you want for your "DSTV box" but I'm not going to dictate to others how to setup their network.
But parroting the line that IPv6 == IPv4 with more digits shows a lack of understanding of the IPv6 model.

Could you perhaps expand on this comment?

Currently all devices on the network have a IPv4 and IPv6 address (Firewall blocking unwanted inbound traffic that is not initiated from within the network) - SLAAC used on local network to advertise the delegated Prefix received from the ISP.

All other services such as Apple TV services, Google, Facebook etc. work fine over IPv6. AAAA records preferred over A records.

My current suspicions is that DSTV may currently be implementing IPv6 into their network as www.dstv.com, now.dstv.com and www.dstv.co.za resolve to AAAA records, however now.dstv.co.za and dstv.stream only resolve to A records.

i know how ipv6 works.the point being it works on ipv4 , so whats the point of using ipv6 , when its already working on ipv4.Your isp has not run out of ipv4 addresses , hence whats the point ?

He posted above with the exact reason he has IPv6 and you still haven't quite caught on I see.
You say you know how IPv6 works, but I'm not sure that you do.
IPv4 requires NAT because you get 1 internet addressable IP.
IPv6 has an IP per device, they are all internet addressable IPs.
His DSTV box doesn't work with IPv6 enabled on his network, breaking the other device IPv6 integrations.

Do you still not see the difference?

This honestly wouldn't surprise me, SA doesn't have much knowledge on how IPv6 works and it is generally seen as a nuisance
ie. see above (Why use this when you can just use IPv4).

I suspect you'll get further by sending them an email, but I fully expect a responses about it "not being supported".
 
My dstv stream is working on dual stack ipv4 and 6. It was down on Fri tho but resolved itself by sat.

And before I get involved in a flame war I use ipv6 because I can and was bored one day so messed around with my edgerouter.

Just a FYI, for private IPv6 addresses you would still need to use NAT, just like private IPv4 addresses... They are not all "internet" addresses you put it

I'm over trying to explain this, if you ISP is giving you 1 address your ISP is the problem and they have no idea how IPv6 works and should give up on their day jobs.
I also don't believe this is the case, which ISPs are doing this exactly?

I would have no idea, I'm sure IPv6 addresses does not come in blocks of 1's from any ISP. Either way, you don't need to explain anything, I just corrected you to say that there are indeed something like private IPv6 addresses just like private ipv4 addresses, so they are not all accessible over the internet, that's all.

I didn't mean to imply aren't any private IPv6 addresses.
I re-read you post and I see completely glossed over the private part.
Apologies for the confusion.
 
Fault has been resolved.

MultiChoice was not recognizing part of the ISP IPv6 subnet as part of the geographical region.
