Is DSTV Now reliable enough to go dishless/decoderless?

I live in a building with a multi-unit-installation. Subscribing to DSTV means I have to pay multichoice, as well as a monthly line rental to the dish installation company (Ellies), which I'm not going to do.

If I just got hold of a smartcard and activated a premium subscription, I could presumably get DSTV Now, correct? Is the stream reliable enough that it's a good solution to get Supersport? Are all Supersport channels in HD?

I tested out the free broadcasts on the iOS app and it seems to work well enough.

I don't find DSTV now reliable enough yet, I can stream YouTube and Netflix without any issues but DSTV now still buffers

Very reliable on my side. I’m watching it as we speak on Android TV Mibox

Ah, good to know. Thanks.

I might ask a premium subscriber to come test out my connection before I commit.

Test it when maybe something would be watched by alot of people like maybe the Sunday movie.

Nope. Not all channels available and quality is often poo. No surround sound either.

The Soccer World Cup is the reason for my investigations. I imagine there will be much traffic. Not really interested in anything other than Supersport (which I hope is HD).

It may be HD but you get mega****tons of compression artifacts on fast moving scenes

Ooh, interesting, so maybe worth testing on a wired connection.

I was on 20/2 speed and never had problems on wired. This month downgraded to 4/1 and still have no connection problems with DSTV Now and Youtube.

Dream crusher.

Why don't you offer to pay someone with a premium subscription, like R150 or R200 to use their login details for the duration of the world cup...? (After testing it, of course :) )
You could also use it to watch showmax, if you so choose.

Lots of personal info can be accessed that way.

My mum and dad are extremely law-abiding. I could convince them to sign up for streaming, but it would constantly weigh on their minds that the DSTV police would be coming for them.
