My mum and dad are extremely law-abiding. I could convince them to sign up for streaming, but it would constantly weigh on their minds that the DSTV police would be coming for them.

None of my friends are subscribers.

But they're already automatically subscribed (if they have a premium subscription), they just need to activate it.
You can tell them that, as it stands, they're "paying" for the online service and they're not using it...so it's kinda' going to waste. :D

And they are legitimately allowed to use multiple sessions - and it doesn't have to be in the home where the decoder is (they support mobile devices)

A word of warning...

DSTV Now cannot be compared to Dish quality.

Especially the SuperSport channels. The amount of artifact you get is some sports, like Rugby, is not acceptable and you will notice the difference right away. They use a poor bit-rate in my view, and then there is the FPS issue which they still need to deal with.

I don't know what refresh rate they are running but it definitely not as smooth as Dish. This makes a picture look jerkym and again notice the most in sports.

I put DSTV Now and Dish side-by-side when watching some Tennis and the difference is mind-boggling

edit:

DSTV Now max bit-rate is ~2400 kb/sec

That translates to ~300 kB/sec which a 4Mbps line can comfortably handle

a 4Mbps line, seriously??? We got people on here with 20,40 even 100 Fibre lines at home.... and all they offer is that??

Is DSTV Now reliable enough to go dishless/decoderless?

I live in a building with a multi-unit-installation. Subscribing to DSTV means I have to pay multichoice, as well as a monthly line rental to the dish installation company (Ellies), which I'm not going to do.

If I just got hold of a smartcard and activated a premium subscription, I could presumably get DSTV Now, correct? Is the stream reliable enough that it's a good solution to get Supersport? Are all Supersport channels in HD?

I tested out the free broadcasts on the iOS app and it seems to work well enough.

Is that a new thing? sorry been out the loop I cancelled about 2 years ago cause I have fiber and I stream
