Hi all,

Can somebody explain this or have any idea why its happening, I have 2 connections currently, a 50/50 fiber connection with Vuma / CISP and my 20mb ADSL connection which has been canceled but is still within the notice period.

So I wanted to stream the rugby this afternoon on the tablet while I sort out the braai but I could not get a solid stream on the fiber connection, switched over to the DSL connection and worked perfectly. So naturally I thought my fiber or its associated wifi was acting up, headed over to my pc which is a wired connection and same thing, can hardly watch on the fiber connection, works perfectly on DSL. Again I think well my connection must be acting up but a speedtest on the fiber line shows nothing strange.

Open up twitch tv, load up a stream @ 1080p 60fps, butter smooth on the fiber no issues at all. open up another browser tab with the rugby and sure enough dstv now keeps freezing and dropping to like 360p while the twitch stream keeps running perfectly. Switch back over to the slower DSL and now DSTV stream is 100% but twitch takes a break every few seconds. Confused much?

Now this does not make sense to me at all, how can dstvs stream perform so much worse on a better connection?

DSTV been flaky for me too! Channels 204-208 dead for me on decoders. Tried to stream 205 on HTPC, 360p and buffering, 1Gb fibre...

DSTV insists on using the IP address as a check to see if you are legally entitled to access the service. So, it is possible that the authentication process is causing some issues. Next, it also depends on how much capacity s available between DSTV and the ISPs node. If that is inadequate, then you will get these issues. The problem IS with DSTV and how they run their streaming services.

Also buffered on my 20-meg for mostbof the stormers/lions game..now buffering with eng/ Wales game..neflix streaming fine as well as showmax

By legally entitled are you referring to the number of concurrent streams? You're entitled to two at any given time and, afaik, there is no restriction that they have to be on the same IP address.

Thanks for explaining..bloody dstv!!

Had the same problem. I have a 50/50mbps fibre line from CISP and the quality was so bad I couldn't make out the players. Buffered every couple of minutes as well. Speed test showed 5ms ping 48mbps download and 46mbps upload. Started Amazon Prime and Grand Tour streamed in Ultra HD HDR without any problems. Definetely on DSTV's side. Me thinks they must move all of DSTV Now to Microsoft Azure like they did with the 4k stream test...

I have stopped trying to watch rugby on DSTV now. The buffering is insane (10meg adsl, unshaped).

Youtube, netflix etc stream with no issue.

Dee Ess Tee Vee will be Dee Ess Tee Vee. Why you guys still bother befuddles my brain.

I spent plenty of time working on this 5 years ago. I went so far as to analyse the routing between me and the DStv server in use at the time, to the point where I took the trouble to quote the exact physical routing, the system involved the service providers involved, the servers, how they were configured, how Mweb at the time had set up CDN, how and where traffic was unnecessarily tromboning between JHB CT and back again, the impact DNS settings were having.
It was a lemon. The response from DStv was so bad that that cannot possibly even repeat it.
The conclusion is that DStv really does not care at all, all they want to be able to do is satisfy their own internal needs and the content suppliers.
I have not accessed or used their CU+, BO, streaming services since. I removed ALL their apps from my devices.

The only way DStv is ever going to come right is if the public out there refuse to use their services completely.

100%...

Their approach to things like this is piss poor at best, and totally incompetent more often than not...
