DStv customers can access Premium for free from today

DStv's Open Time weekend kicks off today, Friday, 7 November 2025, giving decoder subscribers on any lower tier free access to its Premium subscription.

The timing is ideal for sports fans who don't have the top-tier package. The Springboks take on France in Paris, the Proteas face Pakistan in the ODI series decider, and F1 fans can enjoy the Brazilian Grand Prix.

“It is a lovely way to give back to loyal viewers. For long-time customers on other packages, it opens up access to Premium stories and experiences they may not have seen before,” she said.

“It is a wonderful 30th birthday gift.”
Yes raping customers for 30 years because of being a monopoly is a great gift. Lol

So... Open Time mistakes / specifics I've picked up;

(Only checked SD and can only make some determinations.)

A few channels are only meant for specific packages, so if there's no access to them, that's why. (They seem to have allowed a couple to work, but not sure.) They are:
(SD) 109, 110, 134, 139, 143, 148

SD 332 Gospel channel wasn't done properly, it remains E16 for some.

Test channels SD 196 and SD 198 have been accidentally opened. The former is a copy of ch. 113 and the latter is blank, so no advantage there.

The Indian Bouquet channels are not included, but Premium's default Portuguese 510 & 512 are. (The other Indian channels scattered throughout do work.)

Certain channels are meant for ROA (Rest Of Africa) countries only, so by default won't work anyway.

The Digital Terrestrial carrier channels 902 M-Net Terrestrial and 903 CSN (combined sports) are not included.

Not bad, these new guys are a better breed of organisers and fault-checkers for sure.

They would offer it, but their infrastructure can't handle the potential demand. 4 streams currently allowed.
What about us plebs who don't have decoder accounts? Actually, what am I saying, I do have a decoder account, only an easyview account at the moment which I keep around for proof of address purposes, but why aren't all the channels available when I log in on the pc?

Not so sure it's about that, although your point may factor into it.

Thing is, doing it for streamers later on also let's them do the whole publicity stunt again.

And / or those into less than Premium streaming are mostly young, so will already have their own sources for movies / series, maybe sport too.

They made it clear, no streaming at all.

Would have been nice to get the OTG streaming-only extra sports channels as well for the weekend, some nice other sports on that too.

Yes, a usable benefit.
I don't think they care much about or understand their customers. Not saying I do, but they don't seem in touch with reality, use opportunities wisely, and seem to have forgotten how they got here.

I'd agree, but since Canal+ has only just taken over maybe we should give them a couple more months

I think it's the biggest factor.

It would have to be a big deal like this one celebrating 30 years. Maybe if they finally had a better app? No 576p limit, subtitles and such.

Nothing legal beats their sports offering. Why miss a chance to showcase that?

Carte Blanche looks quite standard, suppose they may have a 30 year b-day piece as well.
