What's the easiest way to output my DSTV to a LCD monitor that only has VGA?

Doesn't one need RGB output signals to accomplish this? I don't think TV signals are compatible with VGA
IIRC my pvr is outputting to component (via SCART).

I think you get a component to VGA converter... trouble is finding one locally.

Don't see why not.... is it a straight forward component to VGA converter?

bwana, there are component devices which convert RCA output (or scart) to VGA. I have one of those with a TV tuner built in. You can use the tuner or have another media player (e.g. DVD player) hooked up to it and eventually to a standard LCD monitor with only VGA inputs (analogue). It's called an LCD TV Tuner Box (do a search) and they are available at some computer stores.

Thanks - I'll have a look for one and see what they cost.

Alternatively I might order one of these [ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hama-SCART-To-VGA-cable/dp/B0002W69MY"]Amazon.co.uk: Hama SCART To VGA cable: Electronics & Photo[/ame]

You need to be a bit wary about these cables. Although the output from your DSTV can be set to RGB through the SCART output, SCART lacks two signals that the monitor may require: i.e V-Sync and H-Sync.

It will depend on your monitor as V-Sync and H-sync are optional in the VGA spec.

More info here: http://pinouts.ru/Video/VGA15_pinout.shtml (see pins 13 and 14)

and here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCART

Edit: it looks like Pin 16 on Scart can provide a blanking signal which will work as V-sync AFAIK... So if your monitor doesn't need H-sync the cable will probably work... maybe :)

Which one? The cable or the tuner box?

The Tuner.

It had the following:
> 1x 3.5mm audio-in
> 1x 3.5mm audio-out
> 1x rca video out
> 1x standard vga in
> 1x standard vga out
> 1x rf in
> 1x composite in

I was looking for a solution for hooking my Wii console up to my 22" LCD this looks perfecto. and cheap

what kind of outputs do you have on the back of your DSTV?

I have a cable that has a VGA connector on one end and five RCA plugs on the other end (Red, White, Green, Blue, Orange).
