DStv PACE versus UEC HD PVRs

got my HD Pvr installed yesterday. Using the PACE decoder and had a stainless steel HD dish installed... I also bought the 32" Samsung series 5 that was on special at game and o far no problems at all. SD is very good quality, and the HD content is also great...

I am glad i didnt spend more on a tv for now..

You think it has something to do that the SatCR port is on LNB2?
What sort of issues are you getting?

As you might know, our single cable distribution system uses shifted frequencies and the combination of the two polarities. The UEC box does not pick up the shifted frequencies with the firmware version it ships with... and because you can't pick them up you can't do the firmware upgrade. This means you have to go and do the firmware upgrade off site. Also the IF tuners seems to be less sensitive than the Pace and therefor it does not like low signal levels. A lot of communal systems are running quite low, because of bad system design (not my designs off course :D). This low signal level causes digital break-up and black screens on the UEC box, where the Pace runs fine.
 
So with your setups have you managed to get the Pace fully functional off a single cable carrying both polarities?
To get mine working with a communal dish I had to run the single cable thru a MS & give the Pace 4 inputs and only then was it happy & fully functional
Maybe using a MS is worth a try with the UEC if you haven't tried that, even though it would decrease signal level that little bit more

You have to split the single cable feed to all 4 tuners and then tell it where to look for the shifted horizontals by entering additional networks. Most multiswitches degrades the signal though. We split it with a 4-way satellite splitter and sometimes use a 10dB Spaun line-amp to compensate for the loss through the splitter. This works better than a multiswitch.
 
The pace at the moment is the better choice, the one and only reason is they have released multiple patch upgrades.They key to try high definition is the dish and splitter, make sure you have a 90cm dish and a decent splitter, (if you have the cash, buy an active inline splitter)

They run off the same software...
At the moment for me its all about deciding between the quicker remote response of the UEC & the lack of video stutter on the Pace
 
They actually don't, the pace had certain firmware issues which the UEC did not. additional the pace has a faster CPU and more on board memory. from my experience is out performs the UEC.
 
The video stutter lasts for about 0.5 secs. It's unnoticeable. Get the UEC it has a faster processor.

Think you right about the software, it is a slightly different build
The UEC is the one with a faster CPU but its minimal so I dont think it has any noticeable effect
My UEC is waayyy quicker then the Pace but the Pace is 18 months old, once I clear recordings & format it should hopefully speed up to the UEC

Which of two produces less heat and uses less power, does anyone know?

That will be the decider for me.

did the SW update sort out your issues...? I'm leening towards the UEC HD PVR...
 
I read on the DSTV forums that the playback stutter is fixed on the UEC with the new update - only problem that I have come across for the UEC are:

1. A guy was complaining about the sound quality on his high end surround system, and changed to a Pace which he said was much better. Only heard of this once.
2. The UEC sometimes misses scheduled recordings and even loses/corrupts the schedule itself, subsequent to signal loss due to bad weather.
