Hmmm its more of a transmission issue than the receiver I beleive.

Both the UEC HD PVR and Pace HD PVR are capable of supporting 1080p as an output resolution, but neither are capable of receiving a 1080p broadcast. The option to output to 1080p is however not enabled in the software at this stage, but this decision could be reviewed dependent on market demand.

the UEC decoder showed an e-Sata connection allowing for more disk. Whoopee. No one has explained where they are finding enough decent programs worth recording to fill the existing disk anyway.

Still don't understand why they would introduce another machine if they can't even program the Pace properly. I can't see their code being directly compatible with the UEC, and seeing as they don't know what the f..k is going on with the Pace, it means plenty of headaches for UEC users.
 
What I'd like to know from other Pace users is what hardware revision number do they see on their motherboard? I bought the Pace 2 weeks ago from Multichoice direct and the revision number is 1.06. (You can see the number through the casing on the right hand side)

My reasoning on this is the Pace has been around for years while this is UEC's first foray into HD so hardware maturity could come into play..

I have both decoders. The UEC box says it has a STI 7200 processor. The Pace does not list its processor on its box or in its manual.
 
Got a UEC the Friday before last. Endless problems. Sound keeps cutting out, I need to reset. Jerky playback of recordings (stop / start). Sometimes playback just stops completely, and I need to reset. And when I reset, as can be expected, what I am currently recording is just cancelled...

I have experienced the same with my UEC. The Pace does not have the same issues and looks a lot better and is smaller and quieter. I would recommend the Pace over the UEC.

That's what we have been saying all along. I like the Pace and know it to be a good piece of hardware.
 
To be fair. The UEC has been out for less than a month. It took almost a year before multichoice released a firmware that made the Pace usable. I reckon in time they will fix the pausing issues of the UEC. So for now I recommend the Pace but the UEC definitely has a faster processor (way faster boot and a little more responsive) so my recommendation might change after a couple of software updates.
 
Here's the thing. This sort of functionality has been available for years elsewhere, for eg. TIVO, etc... Why is MC having so many issues? We're not exactly dealing with cutting edge stuff here...
 
Worse IMO is why do they release a box when its obviously not fully tested. Who would pay for a car when it'll only 'run smooth' after a year of 'sorting out problems'?

How come the consumer has to do their quality assurance for them?

Reality is that MC can addopt as many PVR models as they like, while they are running on the crappy in-house developed software, it will make no difference what the specs are.

Would be interesting to see what the ODM software looks like.

Still nothing there going to lure me away from my superior (has Dstv on Demand), stable performing SD-PVR :p
 
I'm considering getting a HD PVR - curently just have a standard DSTV decoder & dish.
But I was quoted R3000.00 to do the installation - is that reasonable?

R3000 is just for the decoder, unless they include a lnb with four outputs.

BUT why do you a hdpvr?! the normal pvr is just as bad and cheaper to boot,
