DSTV picture break-up?

Do any of you that have a DSTV subscription experience occasional picture break-up similar to when there is rain or a thunder storm? I have asked on the DSTV forum and the disciples tell me it is my installation that is at fault and not the Multichoice transmission. Now I could believe that, but what makes me question their logic is the fact that I see it in other places apart from at home. I spend quite a lot of time away from home and in the guest houses that I lodge in I also experience it there. In all instances the effect is the same.

Last night was the worst ever. During the 20:30 movie on Premier channel, The Grey, there was a period of picture break up that lasted for a good minute or so. Anyone else notice it?

Nope didn't happen here...must be your installation. Maybe the guy that installed yours is doing the lodges as well :)

Seriously though...I have a 2P and Explora and didn't notice any pixelation on either.

I get it every now and then as well. When it happens the decoder however reports excellent signal?

The last month or so I have had lip sync issues, where they speak and the sound only comes later.
Rebooting the PVR sorts it out though, have to do it about once every 2 days

Check the cable connections for a start... my one cable "works itself" loose on occasion, and I get picture breakups... a simple fiddle and tighten and all is right again.

How old is your LNB on the satellite dish? I had a period where I was getting bad quality pictures and I replaced my LNB on the dish and it seemed to sort the problem out.

Mines also really bad lately, started about a week ago, f***ing annoying

Dish alignment, LNB, cable, connections or decoder issues. Could be any of those things... A good installer (with experience and the correct instrumentation) will be able to assess in less than 15 mins.

My problem is that it is intermittent. Yesterday it happened once, albeit a very bad one. Some times I might have a break-up for 2-10 seconds, sometimes I can go for days without any issue. If it is an equipment or installation issue, I will be happy to pay, as long as the techie is prepared to give me a money-back guarantee. Problem is that I don't think anyone will do that.

My equipment is about 8 years old, so I guess it could be that. Signal strength and quality is 90-98%, and that has been more than sufficient for 7 years. This started about 4 months ago and no fiddling with anything is required for it to go away, so loose connections I don't think is the problem.

Same here with me.. I've got a 2P and dual view decoder... This all started when dstv moved to their new decoding system. Couple of friends also complaining.. All have 95cm dishes with twin LNB's..

I have this problem on a continuous basis. It occurs on Channel 104 I think that is the Comedy Movie Channel. All other channels are fine, that is why it doesn't make sense to me. I have yet to report it because I am lazy and also I barely watch 104 anyway so it doesn't really effect me. Will look into reporting it, but I am certain they are going to tell me that my DSTV dish is too small.

I think in order to guarantee the HD service you need a 90cm dish. Mine is smaller than 90cm.

I have a 60cm dish and get full HD without issue. DSTV suggests a larger dish in order to prevent rain fade and those living in CT as they are on the edge of the satellite distribution foot print.

What is the signal and quality levels on 104?

Yip, might be installation issues.. But before I am going to fork out more money, lets get this thread rolling..

I just checked the signal quality:

Tuner 1 jumps between 0% on both Signal Strength and Signal Quality to 98% on Signal Strength and 49% Signal Quality.

Tuner 2 is a constant 98% Signal Strength and 69% Signal Quality.

Makes the channel completely useless.

Get your installation checked. Even with a smaller dish, you should be getting a lot better.

Yip installation issue. Probably slightly off on either the lnb or dish. You'll need to get it checked. Tuner 2 is only for manual recordings, box office or catch up. But seeing it sit at 69% is not good. You'll need to be at least 80 at worst and best 100%.

Mine right now is 98/100 on CH104

Agreed, installation issues. Especially now that there are 19 transponders active, a marginal installation wont be good enough.
